That's what most ppl don't think about when they're visiting these communist countries. China is notorious for stealing info on electronic devices. A simple USB port skimmer in their hotels and they can steal any and all information off your electronics. It's simple with the right software just to download your info once your info is transferred and you won't even know about it.
Why do you think when you travel internationally, you'd want to have "bug detection" and "camera detection" devices?
Hell, pretty sure it happens here in the U.S. as well.

The 20 detained delegates have been released but most of their phones and devices have been seized and DHS is refusing to return them till a later unspecified date. People had their bags searched and the contents of their journals photographed and denied access to legal counsel.

They don't know what you did or said every second of the day you were there in Cuba for the 40 hours you were there. They don't know if you had electronic devices that had vital information on them and gave them to Cuban officials.
