After my last relationship ended, my mother literally said (derogatory): “You’ve made yourself undateable. You’re beautiful, you’ve travelled around the world and lived abroad, you’re well-educated (master’s degree), you have a prestigious job and you make your own money. Most men will feel too intimidated by you to date you.” She then told me I need to try to get my ex back because no other man will want me. No prizes for guessing how my mom feels about me still being single 6 years later.

As a NEURODIVERGENT Child,
No one ever said here, try this instead.
They just said ‘stop.’
So I did. Until I learned how to start again for myself.

Growing up autistic/ADHD meant adults just told you to stop. Stop biting your nails. Stop chewing your shirt. Stop bouncing your leg. Stop fidgeting. Stop stimming. No replacements. No understanding. Just act normal. Now I’m an adult buying chewable jewelry, keeping fidgets in my pockets, and doodling to survive. Two decades of shame doesn’t disappear overnight. But I’m trying to unlearn it.

In life try avoid manipulative people. E get try.

Nobody apologized for how they treated me, they just blamed me for how I reacted.

When I finally got home nearly eight hours later, I burst through the front door…
…and found my husband sitting on the couch eating pizza.
He looked up, completely confused.
“What are you doing here? Weren’t you presenting today?”
I just stared at him.
Turns out my mother-in-law had lied because she’d found out we were planning to move overseas for my job. She thought if I missed the presentation, I’d lose the opportunity and we’d stay close to home.
She actually smiled and said, “I was only trying to keep the family together.”
