A shows success is not just based on its representation, but also good storytelling and pacing. In many cases a show fails not because it has representation, but because the quality was bad. Unfortunately a lot of show runners let the quality drop the moment the story is more progressive, because they think that’s enough for people to watch it. But it’s not.

BRIDGERTON RANT 😒 Not going to lie, I’m annoyed about this new Francesca storyline! They’ve turned her second love story into a lesbian relationship. Francesca goes onto fall in love again and marry Michael, Sir Johns cousin and have two children with him. She won’t be doing that with ‘Michaela’. Why not of had one of the side characters with this storyline? There are plenty of side storylines to accompany the main characters. Now I’m not irritated because they have rewritten her as gay, it’s because they have changed the entire dynamic of the original love story. Her family yet again won’t be able to accept easily this new love, nor will the entire TON! They have already made it clear that in this fictional time line, gay men must hide their relationships or be arrested and even killed, so why do this to Francesca. I was pissed that they started off Benedict’s story with him shagging a man and then expected the female audience to still swoon for him straight afterwards. The way they are going, Gregory will come back from Eton as ‘Georgina’ and Eloise will decide she’s going to become a ‘furry’ and end up being walked round on a dog lead. I’m all up inclusive tv, but stop messing with the main characters original storylines and love stories that endeared so many to the books.

@netflix This was soooooo unnecessary and forced and we’re so tired of it! The show already had plenty of gay representation. This is not how the characters were written. Why must you ruin something that wasn’t broken?
