@MikeFritzell I think the two dish rice stores are a bigger concern than labour shortages and the like that management have been focused on. Much smaller real estate footprint more than compensates for fairwoods scale advantages; lunch rush crowd doesnt care about being able to sit at fairwood

@MikeFritzell I'm not insisting its the exactly the same. I'm saying state interventionism is high and rising across the board, even in democratic free markets. The world is moving towards chinas economic model not the other way round but you seem to believe its still uniquely chinese

The US government kept rates lower for longer making capital cheap and keeping unprofitable firms alive. Its nothing unique to China.

Seems more likely to me root cause is capital is too cheap in both countries so its government interference everywhere
