This weekend, NDP members elected self-declared “eco-socialist” Avi Lewis @avilewis as their leader. Lewis has called for a full ban on new pipelines and all fossil fuel development, at a time when the world needs Alberta energy more than ever. And while Naheed Nenshi @nenshi may try to distance himself, the Alberta NDP’s own constitution makes clear they are tied to the federal party. The truth is, the Alberta NDP has a long track record of opposing pipelines and energy development. Their extreme views are a danger to jobs and affordability. The UCP will never stop fighting against radical forces, including the Alberta NDP, who want to shut down our economy and keep our resources in the ground.

In a time where most Canadians are suffering and trying to make ends meet, our politicians live a life of self made luxury. Here's a breakdown of most of what they get. Let me know if I missed anything. Members of Parliament, as of April 1, will earn a base salary of $218,600 per year. OUR CT tax goes up. On top of that, there are 28 ministers appointed by the prime minister, each receiving a base salary of $322,700. We also have 10 "secretaries of state" earning the same base $218,600, plus an additional $28,200 for their roles. MPs also make AN ADDITIONAL $14,200 for EVERY committee they sit on and $7000 for being a vice chair of one. (Ever wonder they they like committees)😉 The prime minister’s salary stands at $437,200. Other benefits for our members include $28,000 for secondary housing and $429,600 to operate their office. An.....office. All of this might be easier to accept if Parliament were sitting year round. However, the House typically sits for approximately 121 days a year. That raises a fair question: How many Canadians, working far longer hours across a full year, come anywhere close to earning these amounts? Perhaps even more concerning is the fact members of Parliament can vote on their own salaries. Most Canadians can only dream of such a privilege. In any other profession, compensation is determined by performance, accountability, and market forces-not by the employees themselves. Is it time to change this? 🤔

Because the risk will be absorbed over time by future Canadians. The same ones currently trying to afford groceries. Supply will catch up eventually. Demand will not wait. Applications are expected to open soon if approved. Priority likely given to those starting from zero. Existing Canadians are welcome to apply assuming they have anything left. Next phase is already being discussed. Longer terms. Lower barriers. More access. Because if you cannot afford the present you can always finance the future.
