Rishi Sunak wants to carry on extracting fossil fuels. Keir Starmer espouses the benefits of clean energy, but he's abandoned public ownership of energy and abandoned his own £28bn green investment pledge. Labour has to do so much more to make just energy transition a reality.

Who’d have thought - a publicly owned energy company is actually very popular with voters. People want energy without profiteering shareholders. This is great. Now to read the small print and understand what an ‘investment vehicle’ actually is… 🔍 🤯

5) The two campaign policies that have cut through unprompted are National Service and GB Energy. I've been surprised how often GB Energy has been brought up unprompted since the pledges by fairly non-politically engaged people, it's a surprisingly retail Labour policy

An 'investment vehicle' simply isn't enough. By propping up the private sector, Labour are losing any control over protecting workers rights and delivering a just transition for fossil fuel workers. We need an energy transition based on worker ownership.

"Well no it’d be an investment vehicle, not an energy company," Keir Starmer said of Great British Energy this morning. The Conservatives are using the quote to call GBE "an energy company which won’t produce any energy".
