Meryl Streep auditioned in the mid-1970s for the film King Kong (1976). The producer, Dino De Laurentiis, reportedly asked his son in Italian something along the lines of, “Why did you bring me this?” (referring to her looks), not realizing Streep understood Italian fluently.
She calmly replied in Italian, which reportedly impressed him. She didn’t get the role as it ultimately went to Jessica Lange, who was virtually unknown at the time.
The image below shows Meryl Streep on her way home after the audition.

Harrison Ford was working as a professional carpenter in Hollywood during the 1970s. He was largely self-taught and did carpentry work for various film industry clients, including George Lucas.
While building cabinets and doing renovation work for Lucas, he was asked to read lines with actors auditioning for Star Wars.
Lucas liked his performance so much that Ford was eventually cast as Han Solo, even though he was originally just there as a carpenter, not an actor being considered for the role.

Quentin Tarantino once said that Faye Wong’s dance to “California Dreamin’” in Wong Kar-wai’s Chungking Express (1994) was one of the coolest scenes ever filmed.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hear ‘California Dreamin’ again without seeing Faye Wong do her little dance.”
