@maxwelltani The only way to stop a bad billionaire with a gun is a good billionaire with a gun.

@JayDavidso44623 @Dhaubbs Not if he does it by winning elections.
Canada does not have term limits.
Mid-twentierh century, W. L. MacKenzie King was Prime Minister for almost 22 years, which he achieved by winning five elections.
English

@Dhaubbs By saying he will be PM for 20 years. That’s a dictatorship
English

@CallThisAgent @bourscheid I like him because he is gay and made his first bil working for George Soros.
English

@bourscheid Doubtful but you retards will write anything for clicks and engagement farming.
Bessent is worth $600m and has class and brains to have a fistfight at work.

@DocumentingBTC Of course, Mark Twain did happen to die just before World War 1.

@CtrlAltDwayne @Zai_org If only AI was good enough to catch even the simplest of errors, this thread might not even exist....

@FilmThePoliceLA She just got my vote, perhaps by default, because this field of candidates is bleak.

@SteveCl88254263 @SheDrills I think you are correct, but such manipulation would still come at a cost, and such an investment is likely founded on the idea that they can "ride out" this Hormuz closure. When they no longer can, they'll be the first to know. Should be fun.
English

@SheDrills Makes little sense otherwise. The world is still 100% dependent on o&g to sustain life as we know it. Everything breaks down without this fundamental, critical resource.
English

Bad Take...
Oil simply hasn't been high enough for long enough thanks to the inventory glut at the start of the Hormuz crisis. Markets are pricing in a quick resolution...let another round of negotiations fail and then see what happens. The inventory buffer is burning down. #OOTT
Andreas Steno Larsen@AndreasSteno
Oil is simply less relevant for the economy than it once was..

@_Moti_x @Jinxful_ @DobbyClub06 I agree. Why fight it. Feudal society is basically the historical baseline.
English

@Jinxful_ @DobbyClub06 When in human history have the wealthiest people not controlled all aspects of every day life? It’s not an admittance when it should be common knowledge
English

@laurimyllyvirta Carrots work, but sticks work better.

New from me: No increase in global coal power generation after Hormuz closure - solar and wind growth covered the fall in gas-fired generation. The record buildout of clean energy in 2025 helped mitigate the impact of the Hormuz closure.

🌐 NEW | Analysis: Global fossil power generation fell in March after Hormuz closure due to solar & wind growth ⚠️ Fall in gas-fired generation offset by large increases in solar & wind power, not coal w/CREA's @laurimyllyvirta energyandcleanair.org/fossil-power-f…

The IPO market is about to make history:
Anthropic's pre-IPO stock, one of the most anticipated IPOs of all time, now has an implied market cap of $851 billion on Jupiter.
In October 2025, the value of a share of Anthropic's pre-IPO stock on Jupiter was as low as ~$122.
Just 7 months later, and these shares are up nearly +640%, to ~$900.
These pre-IPO shares are structured instruments backed 1:1 by SPV exposure, giving investors direct price exposure to Anthropic before the IPO launches, allowing the market to dictate potential valuation.
Between SpaceX's anticipated $1.7+ trillion IPO and both Anthropic and OpenAI targeting $1+ trillion, the IPO market is about to witness history.
The AI Revolution is accelerating.

@TurnbullMartin All I can say is at least we now live in an era in Los Angeles where it is the gas stations that are being torn down to replace with buildings.
English

This is roughly how that view looked in September 2025.

Martin Turnbull, author@TurnbullMartin
These days, LA is a sea of more-or-less identical mini-malls. This photo remind us that it wasn’t always like that. This one had a bakery, grocery, a drug store and a Green Lantern Fountain, and a gas station. I believe this stood at 1911 Cahuenga Blvd, Hollywood, circa 1930.

@mzjacobson The caiso grid is stable thanks to 30% imported power. Brag about Intermittent reliability when you aren't borrowing from mom and dad.
English

On Sunday, April 12, 2026, there was a blizzard throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains, yet the CAISO grid met >100% of demand with WindWaterSolar for 8.3 hours.
This speaks to the reason WWS works so well - it combines geographical dispersion with multiple generator types (wind, solar, geothermal, hydro) and the complementary nature of wind and solar.
When the wind is not blowing in one place, it is blowing somewhere else. When the sun is not shining in one place, it is shining somewhere else.
When the wind is blowing (low pressure), the sun is often not shining at the same location and when the sun is shining (often high pressure) the wind is often not blowing.
12 straight and 78 of 102 days in 2026 with >100% WWS.
Fossil gas is down 59.4% in 2026 vs 2023.

@CGMeifangZhang It's interesting that we've started to call any old machine a 'robot' now, and any old calculator, 'AI'.
