From my point of view, I always advise that using hazard lights during heavy rain should be done with caution and only in specific situations. Hazard lights are designed to warn other road users that a vehicle is stationary or moving unusually slowly due to an emergency. The advantage of switching them on in severe rain is improved visibility when you have stopped, pulled over, or are crawling because visibility is extremely poor. However, the downside is that when hazards are used while driving normally, other motorists cannot see your turn signals, which can cause confusion and increase the risk of collisions. In heavy rain and poor visibility, the safer practice is to slow down, switch on low-beam headlights, increase following distance, and reserve hazard lights for true emergencies or when stopping is unavoidable.
