The core thing is participation in Christ’s death and life, not merely agreeing with Christian ideas or behaving like a respectable person. Christianity is not mainly: “believe the right doctrine, be moral, go to church, be nice, get forgiven, go to heaven.” It is more radical: the old self has to die. Meaning: your ego, status games, resentment, control, self-justification, tribal identity, appetite for being right, fear of losing, obsession with purity, obsession with being seen as good — all of that is supposed to be crucified. Then what replaces it is not “religious personality.” It is love, humility, forgiveness, mercy, courage, poverty of spirit, enemy-love, truth without domination, and trust in God before self-protection. Most modern Christians do not miss Jesus as a symbol. They miss Jesus as a pattern: He does not conquer by winning. He conquers by surrendering without becoming false. He does not defeat evil by becoming stronger than evil on evil’s terms. He absorbs it, exposes it, forgives it, and breaks its cycle. That is the scandal. Not “Christian values.” Not “being on the right side.” Not “God agrees with my group.” The core is: you must lose your life to find it.

@the4kCollectivE This movie gave me problems for years. Around the time of the movie's release, my baptist church gave me a pamphlet telling me to not fall for the movie's lies about Christianity, then entertainment rolled with it, I wrestled with faith, read the Bible, and now I feel better.
