@MJKlaim @dougbinks @jdryg BGFX uses it's own OpenGL like shader language. This means you can't use standard shader debugging tools. At times this was really annoying. Hot reload is pretty trivial in BGFX thanks to it's design and use of resource handles. Note: I've not looked at it for about a year!

@MJKlaim @dougbinks @jdryg yep, I really liked it. Well worth spending some time with. The only sore point for me was shader compiling/debugging. Definitely give it a go, play with the samples. Very high quality library.

I learned an interesting lesson recently about code rot: If you use a large teams engine (unity/unreal) your code rots at an accelerated rate. So your code rots faster and you gain features you'll never use. This is very expensive for small teams over time.

Oh joy! Not only do we have the lowest State pension in Europe now I'll be 67 before I can claim any of it. Peeps, get your private pensions sorted now; another 20 years on and you'll be getting a 100th birthday letter from the Queen/King at the same time as your pension starts!

@executionunit No, is just a floppy disk containing the protection software and all the game data. You ran that on a C64 plugged into the mastering labs recorder rather than a C2N tape deck and that fed the master tape spools.

@executionunit Oh aye... the trick after that was getting a way of putting the shrill tones on the master - not something you could do via the C64. Got the master maker to wait for a key between certain write out sections and then brought in a hardware tone generator!

@PaulieHughes A few days ago I was reading about copper list techniques from back in the day. This stuff isn't mass audience but I think it's important to document it. A lot of it is wonderfully elegant as well, especially compared to modern vast code bases. I learned a lot.

@executionunit I'm trying to get it all in one place; documented and out their wherever possible before I crawl off my mortal coil. I'm sure no bugger is really that interested in 3D routines for a C64 in 2020, but the odd person asks about it!
