JAPAN is rising A 1–0 win over England. A 3–2 win over Brazil. And if we go back a bit — the 2022 World Cup, where they finished top of their group ahead of Spain and Germany. None of this is random. So the real question is: how did they get here? Japan didn’t build its football by starting with tactics, systems, or physical development. They started with the ball. From a very young age, kids play — a lot. At home, in tight spaces. Thousands of touches. Not to win. Not to perform. But to master, feel, and understand the game. Only after that did they build structure. A strong school system, competitive environments at the high school level, a clear professional league with the J-League, and academies aligned with development. But through all of it, the foundation stayed the same: technique, intelligence, and discipline. Today, when you watch Japan play, you see a team that is comfortable under pressure, quick in decision-making, technically clean, and collectively very strong. This isn’t magic. It’s built over time. And it leads to an important reflection. Are we developing players or are we developing teams? Are we giving enough time on the ball or are we rushing into structure, systems, and results? “I’m really fit. I still played a lot of games for Dortmund on a high level, Champions League and in the league,” he said. I'm just looking forward to train, to build relationships. I have a lot of good relationships with a lot of players, but to get relationships with the new ones, it will help me to bring them in a good position and try to assist goals and try to get wins. My kids enjoyed it here, my family. This morning I walked to the beach, had a coffee and really enjoyed it to be back in the city. I did (watch most Brighton games), to be fair, because I followed it a lot. I had a really special relationship here with a lot of people. The reaction (to coming back to #BHAFC) was incredible, it was amazing. I'm really thankful for that as well and I hope I can give them something back with good performances and wins.
