@httpsyuzuru he had SO much potential, mastering a 3A all on his own and his flexibility was unreal. the PH gov is horrible at supporting athletes, in 2024 our golfers had to patch flags on jackets they bought out of pocket to compete bc the gov didn’t send them official jackets

Being a fan of his since 2014 (and now a friend) made me privy to his struggles, and when I say I am so mad at the higher ups in PH sports bodies (esp PH/SU) I mean it. I’m glad he’s gonna compete for fun and for himself this year 🥹

As a fan and ex-journo who covered his journey since 2014 (and happy to say a friend), there's a reason I cuss out and have nothing nice to say about the sport's governing body and all the entities who have failed him. But I love that he's coming back on his terms this time 🩵

@giyeoumi all because the government solely focused on basketball and volleyball. they failed to see the massive potential martinez had. it doesn't just only apply to him, but also to other filipino athletes who are shunned because it's not basketball nor volleyball

@httpsyuzuru his mom had to mortgaged their house for sochi, and used sell different products to fund his training expenses. it got to a point where he have to post a gofundme typeshi so he could compete in Beijing, in which he withdrew later on due to an injury 🙁
