@ManishEarth @quasistable yeah I meant that between the american and the british maybe in the british it's more open so it sounds more like the Italian one, yeah in italian we have more open 'A's in fact in the word pasta you hear the 'A's more than the rest of the letters lol

@ipnotjcaa @quasistable no, in fact it's the opposite, British /æ/ is less open than Italian /a/ (or /ä/) which are equally as open as /ɑ/, at least when just looking at the trapezoid.
British /æ/ is more open than American /æ/ though iirc. Not sure.
