What does it mean to be Baptist? This is a question that I believe needs to be discussed, so I started a substack called "The Radical Baptist." I'll be posting a variety of articles that intend to answer that question. Read my thesis article here: theradicalbaptist.substack.com/p/meet-me-in-t…

I'm not trying to be mean to James here (and I do apologize if it comes across as mean, I hope not since his handle mentions this), but seeing him have, like, serious political opinions is jarring. When he was at Liberty as a student (I was a campus pastor kid), he was the dancing guy. At like every Liberty event, he would dance. And like, really excited(?) dancing. It was a humorous bit, and it was funny and fun. So, seeing him have serious political opinions is like seeing an op-ed by Weird Al on the Iran War. Not saying he can't. It's just jarring.

The Christocentric interpretation of Cotton-Eye Joe is Israel talking about Melchizedek and how the order of Melchizedek means that Israel has been divorced (hence, would’ve been married a long time go) and how Christ moved to a new bride.

"We don’t want to drive people away or be rejected [in evangelism]. We don’t want to be seen as weird. Or hurt someone. Where are you going to drive them to? Hell number 2?" -@MattRWilkins

You left out a really important part of 1 Peter 3:21 "Not the removal of the filth of the flesh." Do a word study on the word filth. See how it's used in the LXX. See how its cognates are used. *Pssst* It means sin.

People can bring up trust and other things about why this happened. But as a pastor of a small church who's about to lead a newly formed mission committee to consider our mission dollars, trust has nothing to do with the equation. The equation is simple: 52.5% of CP dollars in TN goes to TBC. Of the 47.5% that goes to the national CP. Roughly 50% of that goes to the IMB. For my church that means $80 a month gets to the mission field of the $336 we give to the CP. The CP has been sold as missions to the average Southern Baptist. I would assume most Southern Baptist churches aren't busting at the seams with money. I would assume the majority are struggling and they want every dollar, every cent, to go to winning people to Christ. The question no Southern Baptist seems to be willing to talk about is: "Is the Cooperative Program really the best way to win people to Christ?" And that question can only be answered by each local church. Not by the people dependent on CP.

Total CP gifts from SBC Churches: 2007-2008. $548,205,099 2023-2024. $446,641,957 A drop of over 100 million in 16 years. Nashville, we have a problem.

Pastor, don't pastor alone. State Chapters are designed to encourage and walk right beside you by connecting you with other doctrinally faithful and distinctly Baptist pastors and churches across your state. Friends, would you consider donating to provide local pastors and their wives a 2-night retreat in December 2026 at The Shepherd’s Rest at PGA Frisco? As a pastor’s kid and, now, as a pastor myself, I have seen the toll ministry takes on men. Faithful pastors carry a weight unlike any other profession. They are on-call 24/7. They place the needs of their congregation, oftentimes, ahead of their own family. They are normally the first to arrive and the last to leave. They are expected to fill any gap missing. Setting up a recurring gift of any amount goes a long way to helping pastors. We have no overhead expenses. Every dollar goes to bringing meaningful rest to pastors who care deeply for their local church. …vativebaptistnetwork.churchcenter.com/giving/to/past…

So, Keith Daniels is running for SBC president in 2028? Is that the pattern we're establishing? Or were Presley and Powell test balloons for Mohler to see if he's safe to run in 2028?

The presidency of the SBC is a stewardship. I have been raised by Southern Baptists, shaped by Southern Baptists, and educated by Southern Baptists. It is my privilege to serve alongside other Southern Baptists for the sake of the Great Commission. A short video and article…

During Report Hour at @MABTS last week, Dr. @MichaelSpradlin called Jehovah Witnesses "UberEats evangelism." Might be my favorite thing ever said.

I really like this answer. I also think this is a wise answer for pastors as well. When you start at a church, use the translation that the church historically uses. Then move to another as wisdom dictates.

Looks like @ReformTheoSem has found some archival footage! I've grown a beard and lost (and regained) 20lbs since recording this, but I stand by the advice. There's (probably) only ONE English translation you should be using, and it's... youtube.com/watch?v=R9m_u6…

The amount of every day church people who are shock when I tell them this. Churches spend probably 90% of their outreach on children and (through the kids) moms. They swear that if the mom gets saved, the dad will come around (something that portrays our quasi-matriarchal society). Win the dad. In serving a church, start with how to serve the men. Everything else will follow. I believe it was Dr. Patterson who said a church for men is a church for everyone.

Modern ministry is quite a thing. On my flight back from Phoenix, I was able to write my sermon manuscript for tomorrow (I study all week and write Saturday night. I like fresh bread). I lacked nothing to be able to do so. I had all my study notes on my laptop that I wrote on my desktop Mac. I had all commentaries if I needed them. The only restriction was trying not to wake my wife as she slept on my shoulder. *I also don’t bring my manuscript into the pulpit.
