On March 30, 2026, 35‑year‑old Ammarin Lada Tunstall was arrested by Monroeville police and captured on video being dragged across the pavement toward a patrol car. Witnesses say he was on his knees and appeared unresponsive as family members called out to him, and that he had been pepper sprayed and tased multiple times before officers dragged him to the vehicle and loaded him inside. Within about 30 minutes, Tunstall was found unresponsive at the jail, given Narcan for a suspected overdose, taken to a hospital, and pronounced dead. As of today, state investigators have opened an in‑custody death investigation and sent his body for autopsy, but no cause of death has been released, no full explanation has been given for the stop or the force used, and no body camera footage has been made public. This has left his family with a viral video as their last image of him and no official answers to explain why he did not survive that encounter. His family deserves full transparency, the release of all available video footage, and a complete autopsy report that clearly explains the true cause of his death.
