I think as a young father, he really feels that. He also sees in Mel that she's someone that feels sort of misfit among those around her, and I think another cornerstone experience of addicts is chronic apartness, always feeling like you are apart from others and you don't quite fit in with everyone else, or there's something innately different about you, like everybody else is tapped into the same frequency, and you're just slightly on a different frequency. I think that's something that that all addicts know, and that Langdon knows, and I think that is something that Mel knows, and I think there is this sort of misfit bond between them.”
