And yet we still import a shit ton of oil and gas. Imagine how much better for the planet and our economy it would be if whilst we tapered off our reliance on it, we actually used oil and gas we have available under our own seas ? And we wouldn't have to prop up dubious regimes financially in the process.

We actually crossed the point where renewables generate more of the UK's electricity than fossil fuels three years ago, and that gap is only going to grow as more capacity comes online.
National Energy System Operator@neso_energy

Yesterday #wind produced 49.0% of GB electricity, more than nuclear 18.4%, gas 11.5%, imports 11.5%, solar 5.8%, biomass 3.7%, hydro 0.0%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation

Don't know where Ashcroft found those Tory voters (under a fairy toadstool in the garden maybe ?). I get the feeling that the country has had more than enough of the ConLab parties destroying the country. Whilst not as rapid with the destruction as Labour, the Tories wilfully fucked us over in so many ways I can almost forgive austerity because at least it acknowledged the fact we were going bankrupt, but I can't forgive addressing the causes and ongoing increase in migration at the cost of our own young people's opportunities and training. Both deserve to be consigned to the history books.

The vast majority of people want nothing to do with Europe. There you go... See how easy it is to make shit up ? One thing I can be almost certain of though, is that the vast majority of people have higher properties than trying to reschackle ourselves to a dysfunctional socialist overlord.

Which other countries are bankrupting themselves and destroying their industry whilst increasing their reliance on unstable regimes for the import of oil and gas which we are still dependent on ? Or are we the only ones who signed these international treaties. I don't disagree with breaking the reliance on oil and gas. I disagree with importing it when we could produce it ourselves. And don't quote international markets set the price. They do for Norway too, and they seem to do okay. What is missing is common sense and political will, not oil under the sea.

@CeeMacBee You do realise that burning fossil fuels produces CO2, a proven greenhouse gas, causing global warming? What’s your alternative policies to address that? Please be specific. We have commitments in international and domestic law.

Dozens of North Sea oil and gas fields blocked by net zero And the Wind Fall Tax. There are 51 known new fields in British waters that could be feeding domestic pipes but have been rendered “unviable” by current government policies, including the windfall tax and a ban on exploration licences. On top of these, some 60 extensions to existing fields are being held back for the same reasons, according to trade body Offshore Energy UK (OEUK). telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

Same... If it is money, he just earned the extra with his performance and control of the match against Castre. Our share of the next match takings should be enough, surely. It isn't football where they need a bajillion pounds to keep a superstar (though these boys deserve more than they get for putting their bodies and health on the line so much...

It is not "going green" or preventing climate change when we offshore our carbon emissions to another country on the other side of the world and then have to pay extra to get stuff here, as well as burn more fuel in the process. It is not "going green" when we have to buy oil and gas which we are still dependent on from other countries, and then ship it here at great cost and more fuel to transport it. It is not going green if we buy oil and gas from a country who pumps it from the same place that we could instead of pumping it ourselves, it is economically illiterate dogmatic following of an ideology. It is not going green when the country is addicted to cheap jeans, cheap toys, a new phone every year because "marketing team makes it look sexy and phone company needs more profits", when we import all the technology and materials for renewable energy from the other side of the world when we could make it here but don't because successive government's vanity project has made it impossible to be competitive and build here. It is not going green to have to refresh your outfits every season because "fashion" It is not "going green" to be unable to produce strategic materials but be depending on potential adversaries to import them. If you want to truly go green, you get rid of rampant consumerism. Stop importing things we could produce ourselves if energy prices weren't so high, and mainly, don't switch off1 and destroy sources of energy (power stations, domestic oil and gas production) until you have build sufficient nuclear capacity to replace it, especially if that means you have to import it from the international markets. It isn't science, it is common sense, but politicians show a massive lack of that in the main, not to mention their dogmatic followers...

@0hour1 Actually, more likely to be Russian than German. Though likely to have remained English for the same reasons why Germany couldn't invade the UK. But don't let facts get in the way of a good wind up 😂

Watching the launch of the Artemis 2 space mission brought a lump to my throat. For the first time since I was almost too young to remember, humankind is serious about leaving the planet and travelling to another place in our solar system. For once I feel like the world is looking to the future, and our destiny as multi planetary species. (Excepting Elon Musk who has been advocatikg it for a long time but as a private citizen).

Well done to all involved. Contributed what I could financially, but it was you who did all the hard work and took the risk. Genuine modern day David v Goliath story. Now we need to start private prosecutions against senior officers who allow overreach by their forces against against free speech. Hit them in the personal pocket and the illegal harassment of citizens exercising their right of free speech might stop too.

Ben, you know nothing about how the countryside operates. I've seen a farmer in tears at sending cattle to the slaughterhouse. Putting down a sick dog yourself is perhaps the ultimate expression of love for an animal, (it would be VERY quick and they would be in their own surroundings)

Good morning! Here is little Harry presenting our monthly vet account. Harry says that if you want to see the the itemised bill please feel free to ask. Caring for disabled and sick bunnies isn’t cheap. With Easter just around the corner please consider helping rabbits that have suffered as a result of being bought, sold, abused and abandoned by humans. This months bill is £2726, sounds like a lot right? What it actually is, is £1 to 2726 people. As a community, our job is to find those people. This month I would love for our community and anyone that wishes to join us in saving rabbits, to think about finding those £1 donors. You are our marketing team, advertisers and bunny advocates. How many of you can find someone that’s willing to pop in £1 to saving bunnies? Payment options in our pinned post 😍

I am an absolute moon mission fan. Kind of remember the last one as a kid, and the buzz about the whole thing carried on for a good few years in the early 70's. Absolutely stoked to see this happening now. One of mankind's greatest achievements, even if it was superpower willy waving which drove it. (and props to the Soviets too. The Americans took crazy risks, but the Soviets were next level risk takers !). Brave men and women all !
