Math 10 students used a clementine this morning to figure out the surface area formula for a sphere, thanks @TheErickLee for the great idea! @HRCE_Math

Peeled some oranges in class today to find that the surface area of a tasty sphere is about the area of 4 circles with the same radius as the sphere. #ITeachMath #HRCEmath

Started Friday off on a busy note; math market for the 8s and 9s, 8s was based on M8 practice (thank you @TheErickLee) and 9s was based on Square Roots and Surface Area. Thanks Mrs. Bigger for helping us out and being our banker - what a fun hour! 😁🥳 @HRCE_Math

Grade 8s had to plan, design, and create a prism or cylinder of their choice and calculate the surface area and volume… I notice a trend here 👀🍫 @HRCE_Math

Yesterday was a good day but had to leave work early today because it decided to start acting up something fierce this morning. An hour ambulance ride, some heavy narcotics, and a nap while waiting for maintenance to finish on the CT scanner here I am waiting for urology.

Grade 7s explored tectonic plate boundaries today with the help of Oreos 😋

I can’t be more impressed with my 8/9 class, they demonstrated their team work and knowledge of the content from the second the Math Market opened til it closed. Thanks @TheErickLee for coming out and showing me how it’s done! @MarineDriveAcad

MDA’s Indigenous Support Worker, Marsha Mullen, joined the Math 8s and 9s and explained what Wampum Belts are and how they are used for communication. Students then created their own Wampum Belt that showed an algebraic equation ✏️ @MarineDriveAcad @HRCE_Math

The Science 7s finished their Wi’kuom Building Challenge with Marsha Mullen, our Indigenous Student Support Worker today! Students explored different compositions of the materials used to build Wi’kuom’s and then built their own with different materials. @MarineDriveAcad
