The Ghana Airport Company Limited has an ambitious programme to expand and modernize facilities at the Accra International Airport. Work will begin this month on an ultra-modern Concourse connecting Terminals 2 and 3 to ease congestion and provide world-class, high-end facilities for the traveling public. The New Concourse will have 5 new Passenger Boarding Bridges 5 passenger holding areas Bi-directional Travelators 5 new escalators and elevators 1 VIP Lounge 4 Business Lounges 4 New Retail/Duty Free Pods among others. When President Mahama was telling the people that LGBTQ isn’t an important issue, Sam George was seated right at the front. This guy really disturbed a lot of Ghanaians with his aggressive stance on the issue. Today, I doubt many people even take him seriously anymore. After campaigning heavily on the back of the signing of the anti-LGBTQ bill, all these people seem to have suddenly lost their voice now that power has been handed over to them. Sam George was on all platforms making unnecessary noise and weaponizing this LGBTQ issue against the Akufo-Addo government… they’re given the opportunity today and he is quiet.. infact his government says it’s not a priority. An airstrip is not the same as an airport. The Ghana Airport Company intends to build airports. Also, the receivables from tax components on flight tickets are two, and are being utilized for existing purposes. We cannot as a country expand our aviation infrastructure from those charges. This new infrastructure levy is not one that will go into general government spending, it is for the purposes of genuine aviation development and this new development will boost tourism, trade, investment, and job creation.

You can argue that the handling of criminal cases in our courts is slow. That’s fair. But to say ORAL has failed because nobody has been put in jail yet when over 50 ORAL cases are currently ongoing is ridiculous. Unless you know a more efficient approach the gov’t is not using.

Bro, if you take a cursory look at the list of taxes, almost all of them are foreign or airline-controlled, and not revenue that comes to the Government or the Ghana Airport Company. Now, the Aviation Safety Charge and Passenger Service Charge which is controlled by the Ghana Airport Company is utilized for purposes suggested by their respective titles, safety and regulatory compliance, staffing, security, cleaning, maintenance etc. Now, we cannot build new aviation infrastructure from maintenance fees. In addition to the new airports that I’ve already listed, a new 7-storey car park and a hotel will be built at the Accra International Airport. Without expansion, we risk congestion and losing our competitive edge as a West African aviation hub. Admittedly, development comes at a cost. I hope this helps.
