What baby name instantly makes you lose respect for the parents? Mine is “Treblinka.” I heard a mother calling for her daughter at my son’s kindergarten and genuinely thought I misheard it at first. Then she said it again. “Treblinka.” My stomach dropped. For anyone who doesn’t know, Treblinka was one of the deadliest Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. I lost much of my family because of the Holocaust. My grandmother and great aunt were the only survivors left, and I lost both this year. So hearing someone casually use that as a child’s name honestly shocked me. I eventually asked the mother where she got the name from. She smiled and said: “I heard it somewhere once and thought it sounded beautiful.” She had absolutely no idea what it meant. And somehow that made it worse. Because it meant: nobody in the family recognized it nobody at the school recognized it nobody processing the birth registration recognized it Literally nobody stopped and thought: “Wait… isn’t that a concentration camp?” I’m not even angry. Mostly just disturbed by how disconnected people have become from history. One day that little girl is going to google her own name and realize what she was named after.

Why did farmers in 1900 not get sunburned despite spending all day outside with no SPF? Why did sailors in the 1700s not develop melanoma in the rates we see now? Why did Aboriginal Australians, the most sun-exposed humans on earth, manage their entire evolutionary history without dermatology clinics? Why does sunburn incidence track almost perfectly with the introduction of industrial seed oils into the food supply, country by country? Why do populations who maintain traditional animal-fat-based diets, despite high sun exposure, show consistently low skin cancer rates? Why does omega-3 supplementation, which displaces linoleic acid in the cell membrane, measurably increase tolerance to UV in clinical trials? Why are the people loudest about "no link between seed oils and sunburn" the same people whose careers depend on the conclusion? These are reasonable questions. Someone, eventually, is going to have to answer them honestly.

Obviously research is going on to find a way to use old turbine blades - including use as aggregate in concrete . Going to be very expensive concrete I think and who will buy such an expensive product and how much energy will it take to process old wind turbine blades ? No such thing as a free lunch or free school breakfast !

The E-Safety Commissioner successfully lobbied the government to pass this bill in order to strengthen their oversight of the internet. They crave control of your information sources. The guts of the matter is that to have a social media account in Australia from 10 December you will need to prove to the social media platform you are over 16. That's going to be a hassle for social media users and a huge administrative burden for the social media platforms ... who are being threatened with a $53M daily fine for breeches. Lots of bright young kids who are curious about science or history or whatever ... learn so much from social media. Lots of people choose to have an anonymous social media account. That is entirely understandable for many including employees who want to speak freely online but may fear their boss won't agree with their views. To prove you are over 16 you can upload ID but then the E-Safety Commissioner can track what websites you visit to double check you really are over 16. The government however will make it easier for you ... if you just sign up for Digital ID ... and that is the whole purpose of the legislation. I have just left the Inaugural General Meeting of the Digital Freedom Project (DFP).
