Studies show farmers who plant strips of wildflowers through their crops need less pesticide, and often get better yields.
A Swiss study on winter wheat found that fields with wildflower strips had 40 to 53% fewer leaf beetle pests than fields without. Crop damage dropped 61%.
The mechanism is simple. Wildflowers feed hoverflies, lacewings, parasitic wasps, ladybugs, and ground beetles.
Those insects eat the aphids, beetle larvae, and caterpillars that farmers would otherwise spray for. A few meters of wildflowers hosts an unpaid pest control crew.
In apple orchards where no insecticides had been used for five years, plots with wildflower alleyways had 9.2% damaged fruit. Control plots without flowers had 32.5%.
The UK is now running a five-year trial across 15 farms placing 6-meter flower strips through the middle of fields, not just at the edges, because the beneficial insects can't reach the center of a large field otherwise.
This works the same way in a backyard vegetable garden as it does on a commercial farm. Plant native flowering species near your tomatoes, beans, and squash.
The pests still show up. The predators show up too, and they get there for free.
Our fields were never supposed to be monoculture.

Today is my birthday I am 57 years old…
53 years ago right here, down in the holler at the old cabin I was four 🥹 and daddy got me a scruffy pony. I remember it like it was yesterday! His name was shorty and no telling how old he was but I thought he was the most beautiful pony in the world.
I think it was all a plot to get a plow pony because daddy plowed the garden with him 🤣🤣🤣. That pony would get to the end of the row and just look mad while he waited on daddy to tell him which way to go.
Everyone in the pictures is pretty much gone now. My cousins found these sweet pictures and gave them to me.
Anyway…
I been here (in these woods) pretty much all my life and I am so very thankful to be here now.
I hope everyone has a good day, I’m off to go get the cow milk with pop pop!!!

@Kiradavis Between cousins too! My cousin's wife and I got into a dispute about Charlottesville. They haven't talked to me in... nearly 10 years. 🥺
English

The SPLC thing is so much worse than corruption. Charlottesville is a lie that tore this entire country asunder. In the face of loneliness epidemic post-COVID, some of the most important relationships in American society were severed for this lie - parents and children, brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends. And a country divided against itself cannot stand. That is civil war. You're not angry enough.

This guy has an asphalt and sealcoating business that his dad started 23 years ago.
He went to sealcoat this driveway and the customer told him that they weren’t paying because he did it too fast.
He says just because he has perfected his craft doesn’t mean it’s cheaper work and doesn’t mean it’s cheaper in cost.
Do you think this customer had a right not to pay them since they weren’t there very long? If you were the customer, are you paying for a result or for the time?

@gotrice2024 Had that happen to us last year, the lower freezer door was dented. The retailer got us a new door panel; I put it on. Their cost was about $400. $500 may be fair for this door, or ask them to send you a new door.
English

This ma ordered a new fridge for $1000 from Lowe’s. When it was delivered, the delivery men accidentally dented the right stainless steel panel on the door.
The fridge still works great, but there are three unsightly dents. He reached out to Lowe’s and they took $500 off of the total price, so he ended up getting it for only $500.
Would you have taken that deal and saved $500 or would you have taken the fridge back and had the give you a new one that was not damaged?

🚨 VIRGINIA VOTERS — THEY’RE TRYING TO STEAL YOUR VOICE AGAIN!
In 2020, we did something historic.
By a 2-to-1 LANDSLIDE, more than 2.8 MILLION Virginians amended our Constitution to END partisan gerrymandering and create a bipartisan redistricting commission.
Both Republicans and Democrats cheered:
“Voters should choose our politicians — not the other way around!”
Now, just a few years later, the political class doesn’t like the results… so they want a do-over.
Today’s referendum is a mid-decade POWER GRAB.
It would scrap the 2020 reform and ram through a congressional map with 10 Democrat-leaning seats and just 1 Republican seat.
And it’s being bankrolled by nearly $50 MILLION from fewer than a dozen out-of-state left-wing organizations.
This isn’t “fair maps.”
This is election rigging dressed up as reform.
Virginians already spoke.
DEFEND OUR VOTE.
VOTE NO TODAY on the referendum!

🚨 HOLY CRAP! If Virginians don't storm the polls tomorrow, Democrats will succeed in creating the most blue Congressional gerrymandered map in AMERICA
Current map: 6 Democrats — 5 Republicans
New map: 10 DEMOCRATS — 1 REPUBLICAN
GLENN YOUNGKIN: "This is going to be close. They poured $70 MILLION into this! To try to fool, trick and deceive Virginians."
"A 'NO' vote is for the fairest map in America." @GlennYoungkin
STORM THE POLLS!
Final stretch!

i’m no fan of RFK jr. but can we stop pretending that swapping out dyes like red 40 and yellow 5 for healthier options is some sort of travesty. america is so addicted to being fat.
Leading Report@LeadingReport
Gatorade makes a major change to its original recipe, switching to plant-based dyes from fruits and vegetables to please RFK Jr.

@WallStreetApes "Product is measured by weight, not volume"
Literally says this on every cereal box.
English

Another product weight scandal
American buys a brand new box of Aldi brand cereal. The box says it has 12 cups of cereal
On camera she measures out the entire bag by measuring cups. It has less than 9 cups
Americans are being robbed blind
This is a federal crime. This falls under laws prohibiting the sale of products with less net quantity than what is declared on the label
Laws broken:
- Fair Packaging and Labeling Act
This requires accurate net quantity declarations on consumer commodities (including packaged foods). Labels must state the net quantity in terms of weight, measure, or count (here, “cups” as a volume measure). Packages must not be misleading.
- Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act
A food is misbranded if, in package form, its label fails to bear an accurate statement of the quantity of contents in terms of weight, measure, or numerical count.
