@Title_BU @CooterWrites Throw in the fact Duke’s basketball budget is like 27M and Butler’s around 5.8M. Scheyer also had the top ranked recruiting class in the country his first year as HC. Hiring Nored, who has never been a HC in college, with no resources, for the Big East Conference is insane.

@CooterWrites The part where Scheyer joined Duke’s staff in 2013-14 before becoming associate head coach in 2018 and head coach in 2021. It’s not that they hired an alumni, it’s they hired one with no pertinent experience. And no one year as assistant at Northern Kentucky doesn’t qualify

Here are my thoughts on Ron Nored and all those that say he has no Head Coaching experience. How is this different than Jon Scheyer at Duke? They both played in the 2010 national championship. First HC gig was their alma mater. Coach K/Stevens as mentor. Duke is still Duke, but..

Why did Curt Cignetti hire John Srofe as Director of Scouting when he took over Indiana? Because roster building doesn’t start with recruiting. It starts with evaluation. Srofe’s job is identifying players that fit Indiana’s system before most people even know their name. Evaluating film. Building recruiting boards. Tracking portal prospects. So when the transfer portal opens or a recruit suddenly becomes available, Indiana already knows exactly who fits. In modern college football, the teams that win the portal aren’t the fastest. They’re the most prepared.

@jstrachm @kjmac111 That 9M figure is an absolute joke in Norlander article. If Butler spends 5M on the roster that might even be a stretch. They just saved money. Hired a coach with no buyout and are paying him considerably less than Thad. Use that difference on the roster.

@kjmac111 I don’t believe for an instance that Butler is going to spend $9MM in NIL. If we spent half that I would be impressed.

My thoughts- For people who say Nored can’t coach- you’re wrong and don’t know what you’re talking about. For people who say he has no CBB experience- yes and that’s a concern. With an increase in NIL this is unimaginative, yes, but it can work and it can work really well.
