Rajini felt he likely had just one realistic window to enter politics - 2021. He was 70+ when he made the call. Although political climate was favorable for his entry, social/health climate was not - it was peak Covid. Having undergone a kidney transplant in 2016, Rajini has been on immunosuppressants ever since. Therefore his doctor Ravichandran advised him not to remove masks, not attend public gatherings, and if unavoidable, maintain a 15 feet social distancing during campaigns. Rajini realized the impracticality of these precautions, and despite knowing his reputation will go take a huge hit, he pulled back from politics by Dec 2020 even before entering it. Contrast this with Vijay. At 51, he has time. He can afford to test the waters, observe outcomes, and position himself for a stronger attempt in 2031, when he will still have time to pivot to cinema if need be. Rajini’s withdrawal, although personal, was also an empathetic decision caring about not jeopardizing the career of his fans who trusted him. Contrast this with his contemporary Kamal's MNM who has not been participating in 2024/26 elections post his personal RS seat, angering his own fanbase/cadre to no end. > Is Rajini a saint? No. > Has he acted in Dravidawood movies before and will he act in one going forward? Yes and Yes. > Is Rajini an ally of the non-left? Also Yes. > Was he the lone voice apart from BJP to have defended CAA? Yes > Was he the one who had the gall to take on the wrath of EVR fans by calling out insults to Hindu gods in an EVR rally? Yes. He also refused to apologize for the remark and stood his ground. Yes > Is he still the one lonely voice who put out a post supporting Dhurandhar? Yes >Is Vijay indistinguishable from DMK in terms of ideology? Yes. > Did Rajini support covertly support Modi in 2024? Yes > Is there a chance that Rajini might still give his support for a non-left party in the future? Miniscule, but Yes > So what does the non-left gain by criticizing him needlessly? Nothing >Why do they do it still, with no gains? Getting things off chest for self-relief just like Su Swamy gets by criticizing Modi > Even if the non-left gain nothing from Rajini in the future, what do so such rants achieve?
