The latest SEC staff statement on crypto interfaces provides a helpful 5-year framework for technology providers in the tokenized securities ecosystem, but it also highlights a clear line: technical providers vs. regulated financial services infrastructure providers. Under this framework, unregulated interfaces cannot negotiate terms for any transaction; solicit, make recommendations, or provide advice; process trade documentation; provide custodial services; execute or settle transactions; or take or route orders.
