Your fuel. Mariner, vessel, and port safety. Our mission.
The gas that powers Guam's cars, generators, and businesses arrives by sea — aboard vessels like the 183-meter tank vessel Ardmore Seaventure, which called on the Port of Guam to offload fuel last week. While fuel was actively transferring from ship to shore, U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia / Sector Guam marine inspectors were aboard conducting a biennial Certificate of Compliance inspection and modified Port State Control B exam — verifying compliance with international and U.S. regulations and ensuring the vessel's safety systems were fully operational should an incident occur during offload. A dynamic undertaking with real stakes. Our inspectors work to minimize disruption to the vessel's schedule — keeping commerce flowing while ensuring nothing is cut short on safety. That's the balance we strike every day: protecting people and the environment while keeping the maritime transportation system moving. People. Presence. Partnerships. 📷 CWO Muir #USCG #Force4Good #Guam #FlowofCommerce #MaritimeMonday

500 miles. 186 hours underway. One crew. From Feb. 9 – March 1, the crew of USCGC Frederick Hatch (WPC 1143) patrolled U.S. waters from Guam to the remote Northern Mariana Islands as part of Operation Rematau — securing our maritime border, delivering 1,500 lbs of food and supplies to residents of Pagan and Agrihan, and conducting a 96-hour search for a swimmer swept beyond the reef line at Tanguisson Beach. This is what presence in the Pacific looks like. Full story + imagery: dvidshub.net/news/560592

"Vincent Danz exemplified selfless service as a New York firefighter and Coast Guard reservist." — Capt. Jessica Worst, CGFM/Sector Guam On Sept. 11, 2001, Vincent Danz — NYC police officer, Marine veteran, and U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Port Security Specialist — ran toward danger at the World Trade Center and never came home. He was posthumously awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor. Today, his name sails on. The U.S. Coast Guard accepted delivery of the 62nd Fast Response Cutter, USCGC Vincent Danz (WPC 1162) in Key West. The cutter will be commissioned in New York City this May, where Danz served and sacrificed, before the crew makes their way to its permanent home in Guam this summer. Accepting delivery of the Vincent Danz, the newest Fast Response Cutter, demonstrates the Coast Guard’s enduring commitment to the security of our Nation, the Pacific, and our partners throughout Oceania. This cutter will honor his legacy as its crew protects lives, combats illicit activity, and ensures maritime security of our coasts, across Micronesia, and beyond. Thank you to all the men and women who worked so hard to bring this vessel to completion, built upon steel from the World Trade Center. The U.S. Coast Guard suspended the active search Friday at sunset for a 22-year-old man swept beyond the reef line while swimming at Tanguisson Beach on Feb. 10. He remains missing. “The decision to suspend an active search is never one we make lightly,” said Lt. Cmdr. Derek Wallin, the U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue mission coordinator. “Our crews and our partners at Guam Fire Rescue, HSC-25, the Guam National Guard, and across every agency involved used every available resource. We appreciate their dedicated efforts. Our deepest condolences go out to this young man’s family and loved ones. We hold them close in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.” Over three days, joint responders conducted 26 search patterns covering 637 square nautical miles. Coast Guard boat, cutter, and drone crews worked alongside U.S. Navy HSC-25 helicopter crews, Guam National Guard Lakota aviators, in addition to substantial efforts from Guam Fire Rescue teams, who deployed SCUBA divers, rescue watercraft, jet skis, and thermal-imaging drones throughout the operation. Our deepest condolences go out to this young man's family and loved ones. A suspended search may be resumed if new information emerges. Anyone with information is urged to contact Joint Rescue Sub-Center Guam at (671) 355-4824 or VHF Channel 16. ⚠️ A NWS Rip Current Statement remains in effect. The public is encouraged to stay out of the water while dangerous conditions persist. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the shoreline — not against the current. Every championship drive starts in the huddle.
Rear Adm. Brett Mietus, commander of Joint Region Marianas, joined Capt. Jessica Worst, commander of Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, and Cmdr. Abigail Clark, commanding officer of Base Guam, and key staff, for a visit to our mighty 13-acre footprint — talking infrastructure, operations, and the future of the joint force on Guam.
On the agenda: an upcoming facility recapitalization to modernize our buildings; the arrival of two more FRCs by the end of the year; and the force support that keeps our roster strong — childcare, housing, schools, and healthcare, which the Navy makes possible for us here, and we deeply appreciate. They walked the grounds together, taking in our history and sizing up what's needed next. From joint operations to geostrategic realities, this team knows the game plan: move the ball downfield together. And on the eve of the Big Game, the Admiral suited up accordingly. That's called leading with team spirit. Thank you, Admiral, for taking the time to stop by and review our current playbook. People. Presence. Partnerships. These elements power our Progress. Can you believe January is already over? Check out what life a little less ordinary can look like… This #FridayFromtheField takes us aboard USCGC Frederick Hatch (WPC 1143) for another Op Rematau patrol. They wrapped January with two weeks of operations across Micronesia—2,144 nautical miles, a high seas fisheries boarding with zero violations, and over 70 patrol hours enhancing presence offshore of the Marianas.
From efforts to prevent illegal fishing to a successful gunnery exercise with our Mark 38, our crew stayed mission-ready and executed with precision. People, Presence, Partnerships = Progress
This patrol reinforced what we do every day: Protect Sovereignty through vigilant patrols and professional boardings. Secure Commerce by maintaining maritime security across the CNMI. Save Lives by being ready to respond to any crisis. Deepen Partnerships through integrated operations that strengthen our strategic presence in the Pacific.
We also invested in our crew’s professional development—qualifying several In-Port Officers of the Deck and Quartermasters of the Watch, training break-in watchstanders through drills and small boat operations, and recognizing two Permanent Cuttermen, eight Temporary Cuttermen, and one enlisted advancement.
Our readiness matters. Our professionalism matters. Every underway, every boarding, every watch—it all adds up to America’s frontline presence in waters where deterrence prevents conflict and partnerships multiply our effectiveness.

Vigilance in action. Professionalism at sea.
Day and night, our U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam Boarding Team conducts critical operations aboard commercial vessels entering our waters—verifying safety, ensuring compliance, and protecting borders while keeping vital commerce flowing to Guam and the Northern Marianas.
Supported by our team at Station Apra Harbor and the mighty 45-foot Response Boat-Mediums, these are the professionals who make it happen. Working in challenging conditions, often at night, they ensure every vessel is checked without disrupting the essential trade on which our island communities depend.
With 15 boardings completed thus far in 2026, we continue to secure our waters and sea lanes. Every interaction matters. Every vessel checked means safer waters, secure ports, and uninterrupted commerce.

#TBT to Exercise FISGA RAIN 2025 in December, when our Forces Micronesia and Station Apra Harbor crews partnered with joint forces from across the Pacific to strengthen readiness and deepen collaboration right here in the Marianas.
Over four days on Guam’s north end, Coast Guard members teamed up with more than 10 units from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps to test our ability to communicate, coordinate, and execute missions in challenging, contested environments—exactly the kind of conditions we train for every day in this vast, strategically vital region.
Our 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew worked alongside Navy HSC-25 “Island Knights” aviators aboard an MH-60S Seahawk to simulate a casualty extraction in the Philippine Sea, a real-world scenario that demands seamless joint coordination and trust between services. When seconds count, and conditions are tough, interoperability is more than a buzzword; it saves lives.
This is what People, Presence, and Partnerships looks like in action: Coast Guard crews ready to integrate with joint partners, maintain persistent presence across 2+ million square miles of ocean, and build the relationships that multiply our effectiveness when it matters most.
Exercises like FISGA RAIN keep us sharp, strengthen ties with the joint force, and ensure we’re always ready to respond—whether it’s search and rescue, disaster response, or defending our nation alongside our service partners. 🇺🇸

Today, we welcomed Assistant Secretary DeSombre from the U.S. State Department Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and his team, who visited U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector as part of a larger visit to Guam and the region to discuss our vital role in the Western Pacific – with a special focus on the Marianas and our enduring commitment to the Freely Associated States under the Compacts of Free Association. Joined by Deputy Commander CDR Epperson, Response Department Head CDR Johnson, and COFA Liaison LCDR Wallin, and others, the group discussed our operations and briefly visited our Fast Response Cutters and buoy tender CGC Hickory at the pier. The U.S. Coast Guard’s consistent presence, unique authorities, deep regional relationships, and balanced missions – from maritime security to search and rescue and community engagement – help advance a secure, prosperous, and stable Pacific alongside our partners. We are grateful for the strong interagency collaboration with Dept. of State team to support stability and shared values in this dynamic region! 🇺🇸 Photos by CWO Sara Muir #Force4Good #USCG #MircONEsia #COFA #PartnersInSecurity

USCGC Hickory is HOME! 🇬🇺
After a grueling 71-day, 13,000+ nautical mile journey from Baltimore through the Panama Canal (and a quick stop in Majuro for joint aids to navigation assessment work), the “Bull of the Pacific” crew safely moored in Guam today! This milestone restores full strength to Coast Guard Oceania District’s three seagoing buoy tenders, ensuring reliable aids to navigation across 90 federally maintained aids to navigation in our vast Pacific waters. These safe sea lanes support military readiness, commercial shipping, and economic stability in a key region. During the extended maintenance, our teams showed incredible ingenuity—Hickory crew, partners, and jump teams repaired vital aids post-Typhoon Mawar, sister cutter Juniper stepped in later that year, and a recent October 2025 effort by ANT Honolulu fixed seven key aids across Guam, Rota, Saipan, and Tinian. Now, with Hickory’s upgraded systems and heavy-lift crane, we’re ready to tackle up to seven outstanding repairs to federal aids and deliver full multi-mission support: search and rescue, law enforcement, environmental protection, and homeland security. Hats off to this stellar crew for enduring long separations and demanding prep—they’re excited to reunite with families and get after it! “This crew has shown remarkable resilience through extended separations and demanding preparations. We are excited to reunite with our families in Guam and eager to get underway on ATON missions that keep these vital sea lanes safe. As a multi-mission cutter, Hickory stands ready to support the full spectrum of Coast Guard operations in this critical region,” — Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Lash, CO of Hickory Check out the full story and photos here: dvidshub.net/news/556179/us… Video by CWO Muir, Photos Mrs Mandy Thomas and CWO Muir

Safe & Sound Back Home on Guam!
Big shoutout to a 58-year-old local mariner who made it home safe this morning after his 22-foot boat, Solo 2, capsized west of Guam around 5 a.m. – all thanks to his smart preparedness!
He activated his Personal Locator Beacon, sent a message on his GPS device, told a friend his fishing plans (Agat buoy to 9-mile), and stayed with the vessel until help arrived. Our U.S. Coast Guard crew from Station Apra Harbor was on scene fast, pulling him safely aboard the 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and getting him back to family at Agat Marina by late morning. No injuries – just a grateful survivor!
Cmdr. Grant Johnson, our search and rescue mission coordinator, said it best: “His quick thinking and multiple ways to call for help made all the difference.”
With the high surf advisory and high risk of rip currents still in effect through Tuesday afternoon (waves 7 to 11 feet on north-facing reefs – stay cautious out there!), this is a great reminder: * File a float plan and tell someone where you are going and when you’ll be back. * Carry PLBs/EPIRBs & extra comms (and register them with primary and secondary contacts!) * Stay with your vessel if things go sideways
Our friends at the National Weather Service do a great job of putting out the word! Stay informed at weather.gov/gum/
Our island waters can be beautiful but unpredictable – let’s all boat smart and come home safe every time. 💙

Great start to the new year with maritime security in action! Our Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam boarding team, partnered with the DEA, conducted a routine nighttime boarding of the 606-foot oil tanker Chang Hang Xi Wang as it approached the Port of Guam for offload this week.
The operation ensured compliance with security requirements while allowing safe, uninterrupted delivery of critical resources to the island—without delays to commerce or unnecessary strain on port operations.
Our Station Apra Harbor 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew safely transported and received the team under the cover of darkness, demonstrating the precision and readiness that keep our waters secure.

#ICYMI The crew of USCGC Myrtle Hazard (WPC 1139) recently wrapped an intense Operation Blue Pacific patrol—over 5,380 nautical miles and 500+ hours at sea, standing watch in the vast exclusive economic zones of our Freely Associated States partners, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau. We lived our bilateral agreements: embarked local law enforcement officers, conducted joint boardings on fishing vessels, and stepped up with five days of dedicated coverage for Palau while their patrol boat was in maintenance. Together, we pushed back against illegal fishing, strengthened maritime domain awareness, and kept lawful commerce flowing safely. But it wasn’t all enforcement. In Pohnpei and Kosrae, our crew hit the volleyball court with local all-stars, taught kids how to swim, and opened the cutter for tours—real people-to-people connections that build trust and lasting friendships across the Pacific. This is what enduring partnership looks like: side-by-side operations, shared goals, and genuine care for the communities that call these blue waters home. Our service protects America’s distant approaches, empowers our partners to safeguard their resources, and proves the United States is a reliable friend in Oceania—for today and for generations to come. The holidays can make getting home feel like an impossible journey—especially when "home" is a remote island in the vast Pacific, accessible only by boat or a tiny plane. For Petty Officer 1st Class Eugene Halishlius, hailing from the isolated islands of Satawal and Woleai in the Federated States of Micronesia, it's been years since he's set foot there. His last visit? A couple of years ago, during a presence patrol aboard USCGC Oliver Henry (WPC 1140), the crew supported the @USEmbassyFSM and partners in delivering vital drought relief supplies across Yap State and even saved the life of a young boy from Satawal with a severe head injury. Before that patrol, it had been even longer since he’d been on the island. Now stationed in Guam as a dedicated storekeeper on our Base Guam team, Eugene channels his roots into giving back through annual volunteer work with Operation Christmas Drop. This year hit different: he flew high above his home island, pushing bundles of holiday cheer from the skies. Shoutout to our colleagues at Andersen's 36th Wing for capturing this heartfelt story! 🇫🇲🇺🇸 #Force4Good #MicrONEsia #COFA #OpChristmasDrop

Big Win for Marine Safety in Guam! Ever seen a boat slip beneath the waves? Watch until the end… In a powerful display of interagency teamwork, U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, the U.S. Navy, and the Port of Guam successfully removed the M/V Voyager from Piti Channel. Grounded since Typhoon Mawar in 2023, this 116-foot vessel was refloated, cleared of debris, and sunk offshore in compliance with the EPA’s disposal standards on Oct. 2—restoring safe access to the harbor and boosting regional resilience. This op enhances safe commerce flow, strengthens contingency response, and underscores our commitment to national security in the Pacific. Shoutout to the crews of Task Force 73, USNS Salvor, and MDSU-1 for leveraging their training program, skills, and expertise. Conversation led to action, and it took a village, but it is done! As the holiday rush ramps up, the U.S. Coast Guard and key partners wrapped up a successful Multi-Agency Strike Force Operation (MASFO) at the Port Authority of Guam on Dec. 9 and 10. This timely effort ensures the safe and secure movement of goods and services, keeping our strategic port humming during this busy time of year. Our team inspected 130 containers with strong support from four agency partners: the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Port Police, Guam Customs, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Coast Guard crews from Prevention, our Sector Boarding Team, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) jumped in to make it happen. This marked the second MASFO featuring Guam Customs' K9 Team, whose sharp noses boosted our detection game. Plus, it was the debut of IONSCAN technology, courtesy of our Sector Boarding Team, adding another layer of precision to our inspections. These operations spotlight the power of partnerships. By teaming up with federal and territorial agencies, we enhance our ability to spot and stop threats, protecting the maritime transportation system that keeps Guam's economy thriving—especially now, when holiday shipments flood in. A safe port means reliable deliveries for families and businesses alike. We're proud to safeguard our community and grateful for our partners' commitment.

Welcome home, Hazard!
The dedicated crew of USCGC Myrtle Hazard (WPC 1139) returned Sunday from a monthlong Operation Rematau patrol.
A few key things: They kept our borders and nearby waters safe by inspecting ships and training. They protected ocean trade and shipping while staying ready for any emergencies. They pushed back against potential threats through presence and by deepening strong ties with our partners in Micronesia and Palau. From executing joint law enforcement boardings in partner EEZs to patrolling high seas against illegal fishing under the #WCPFC authority, these efforts bolstered regional security, protected vital resources, and further fostered unbreakable bonds. Plus, those community vibes shone bright with volleyball games, swimming lessons, and cutter tours in Pohnpei and Kosrae—true partners in action.
