India under nehru pursued the Mahalanobis plan, which focused heavily on heavy industry at the expense of light industry and agriculture. As a consequence India nearly had a famine in the 1960s and was dependent on food aid. The book population bomb predicted that Nehruvian India was heading for a mass famine. Also the neglect of light industry meant that India had a lower GDP per capita than Pakistan and many African nations until 2000s.

Biggest advt of greatness of Nehru is that Chaddis have now governed for nearly same time as Nehru & not achieved even tenth of what he did. Nehru's govt tamed rivers like Damodar (which was called sorrow of Bengal), built dams and irrigation projects like Hirakud
