“Teaching staff, pupils and parents will also be told they do not have to observe a child's chosen name and pronouns if they "hold protected religious or other beliefs that conflict with the decision".”
Yet we are asked to respect their religion? Accepting someone who is LGBTQ+ doesn’t mean you have to agree with it, but you should accept and and respect their decision.
@BBCBreaking and what about those children with bigoted or abusive parents who don't come out to them for a reason??? this country is actually going backwards.
@BBCBreaking@BBCNews What a disgusting decision based off bigotry and nothing else. This will cause immeasurable harm to LGBTQA+ youth. Outing vulnerable children to parents lest they be forced back into the closet is a monstrous decision.
@BBCBreaking If children haven’t already come out to their parents then it’s because they are not safe to be honest with. This will directly harm children. Not all parents are good, caring parents, stop pretending otherwise.
@BBCBreaking "children shouldn't be safe from the willful betrayal and violence of adults ANYWHERE, new guidance says."
if it's safe to tell their parents, their parents will already know. this is a horrific backslide into old modes of thinking where parents own their children.
@BBCBreaking Western values, confusing kids with bizarre ideology that will just put more money in the pockets of pharmaceutical companies..!
Just take a moment and think, who’s benefiting from all of this?
@BBCBreaking How will a teacher judge if it is safe for a child to be outed to their parents? If I couldn’t come out to them and confided in a teacher instead there is probably a reason.
@BBCBreaking No they absolutely should not unless and until the kid in question is ready for them to do so. All stuff like this does is force people back into the closet; can you imagine being forced to come out as LGBTQ+ after years of hearing a parent be abusive about that class of people?
@BBCBreaking Hey, BBC, I know you are tickled pink by this particular flank of the culture wars but this is only a consultation on a draft, non-statutory guidance...
@BBCBreaking@BBCNews Children shouldn't be groomed into obsessing over their gender identity in the first place. It's a new religion. Teach them biological science instead.
@BBCBreaking Oh hell no, this will endanger children. If a child feels safe to tell their parents then support is useful. If a child won't talk to their parents about gender or sexuality there is a valid reason why.
@BBCBreaking I've seen quite enough of the consequences of parental abuse of children thanks. I would encourage teachers to ignore this "non-statutory guidance".
@BBCBreaking@BBCNews That’s fine…except most trans kids parent are not supportive and will not help their children at all. This legislation will only make things harder for trans youth. Not that Tories actually care about that
@BBCBreaking If your child isn’t coming to YOU with their concerns and they’re flat out not telling you about their gender identity on their own… there’s probably a reason for that.
