@bennyjohnson Few know that Pres Kennedy asked Elvis to help when funds for Pearl Harbor Memorial dried up! Elvis put on show in Hawaii, ALL proceeds plus his own $$ went to the Memorial! Hawaii was so grateful, they have a memorial and thank you to Elvis at Pearl Harbor!

@FayGrad @bennyjohnson It wasn’t JFK. Colonel Parker saw an article in the newspaper around Pearl Harbor Day in 1960 mentioning that the war commission was having trouble raising enough funds for the memorial. He suggested a benefit concert to Elvis, which happened the following March as you say.
