@HMRCcustomers @HMRCcustomers I paid into my small pension in tax year 2021-22 but did not claim on tax return as I didn't realise I could. Can I backdate this claim and how? Do I need to add to current tax return somehow or apply separately?

@PinkInsect Afternoon,
Are you a higher rate tax payer?
Tom

@PinkInsect Were the pension contributions made through the employers payroll, and taken before or after tax? Rob.

@HMRCcustomers This was a payment I sent to a small pension account I had from previous employment. This specific payment was nothing to do with my employed work. It was self-employed earnings which I paid tax on, then put it towards pension.

@PinkInsect Ok thanks. If you are trying to claim Personal pension relief you must be a higher rate tax payer: gov.uk/tax-on-your-pr…. Sofia

@HMRCcustomers Or is this automatically claimed from the government at the basic 20% rate and add it to my pension pot by my pension provider?
