If I were a teacher concerned about more programs being added to the literacy block in the name of SoR, here are two questions I would be asking:
1. When we bring in more foundational reading skill practice/resources, what are we pushing out?
Possibilities:
(1/2)
- Independent reading
- Student voice and choice in what to read/write about
- Peer discussion
2. What evidence do we have to support more phonics/PA and less what was just noted?
Takeaway: Don't debate whether something is "good" or not. Position these decisions as trade offs.
@ReadByExample Good luck with that. Our leaders have no answers (other schools are doing it so…) and they REALLY resent being asked questions they can’t answer.
