@SadlyItsBradley So Deck and Machine will be running the same Steam OS - no forking?
The question then, is whether Frame will have it's own special version.
My hope would be that improvements to SteamVR on Linux for Frame come to the general SteamOS image.
English

@zig131 @SadlyItsBradley The Frame runs on Android, I think.
English
@ReflectiveRuby2 @SadlyItsBradley It doesn't.
It runs SteamOS based on Arch Linux.
That's a big part of what is exciting about it - it's a Desktop class OS.
It uses the Waydroid compatibility later to be able to run Android apps.
The question is whether it will be exactly the same build as Deck and Machine.
English

@zig131 @SadlyItsBradley I could've sworn there was news about Valve forking some Android compatibility project (I forget the name), and it was assumed it was for the Frame because it's a wireless VR headset similar to the Quest, which does run on Android.
English
@ReflectiveRuby2 @SadlyItsBradley Yes - sorry - they forked Waydroid.
So probably by the time Frame launches, it will be using "Lepton" rather than Waydroid for compatibility with Android apps, and Quest game builds.
But yeah a compatibility layer is needed because SteamOS is not Android based.
English

@zig131 @SadlyItsBradley Ooh, I thought it was to run Windows games on Android.
English
@ReflectiveRuby2 @SadlyItsBradley There are a bunch of compatibility layers at play.
Steam Frame is Linux on ARM.
Windows->Linux = Proton
x86-64 ->ARM = FEX
Android -> Linux = Waydroid/Lepton
For most of Steam Catalogue, Proton+FEX will be required.
For Quest APKs just Lepton will be required.
