Discussing TW GDP with GPT: US$98k PPP GDP per capita seems very high Taiwan’s 2026 PPP-adjusted GDP per capita is projected at roughly US$98,000, compared with about US$68,600 in South Korea, US$76,700 in Germany, and US$68,000 for the EU overall. This confirms that Taiwan has exceptionally high productive capacity and relatively low prices for local services. However, the headline figure overstates the purchasing power of the typical household. Actual individual consumption has been only about 53% of GDP in Taiwan, versus roughly 64–68% in major Western European economies, because more Taiwanese output flows into investment, exports, corporate profits, and savings. Housing also absorbs a large share of income: Taiwan’s national house-price-to-income ratio was about 10.8, while mortgage payments were estimated at roughly 47% of household income, with Taipei considerably less affordable. Imported goods, cars, electronics, and overseas travel do not benefit much from Taiwan’s broad PPP discount, and Taiwanese employees generally work longer hours than Europeans. Taiwan is therefore genuinely very rich by PPP, but its median household consumption and quality of life are closer to advanced European levels than the US$98,000 headline alone implies.
