Alabama Republicans Call for New Congressional Map That Would Eliminate Black Representation

Instead of spending $70 billion MORE on ICE, why don't we use that money to help millions of young people buy their first home?

Make no mistake. This right-wing Supreme Court is hellbent on erasing the progress secured by our foremothers and forefathers during the Civil Rights Movement. But we are NOT going back!

“It was long past time to end racial redistricting,” Gov. Tate Reeves said. “The United States will be better off because of it. Today’s decision reaffirms what we knew all along: that all Americans, regardless of race, are equal.” ow.ly/JUEg50YS2y8

AOC says Democrats should respond to SCOTUS weakening the VRA by doing their own redistricting until a national gerrymander ban passes

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

@Black_Action They already have, thanks to you guys and the reactionary leftists.

You know what would actually help our communities? Good jobs, good schools, safe streets, and the opportunity to chase the American Dream. Instead, Democrats throw out useless platitudes like "reparations" to buy off black votes while implementing policies that keep us an endless cycle of poverty.

With this shameful ruling, the Supreme Court is once again complicit in Republicans' assault on our democracy & Black political power. This decision will disenfranchise millions of people, further weaken the Voting Rights Act, & embolden racial discrimination in our elections.

Reading is so important. supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf…
