It’s darkly funny that the US even bothered to go insolvent just to continuously pump money into a settler colonial project of trust fund kids and losers. Really a genocidal idea guy of a nation.

Everything being done in service of Israel has proven to be some of the stupidest gambits in history lol. Entire organizations burning through people just to make sure Israelis didn’t feel bad has cost the world an insane amount of good.

@marcjoffe @kimmaicutler BART needs to fail so the operators can learn a painful lesson what happens when you have financial mismanagement. Taxpayers have had enough.

When I was in my 20s I wished to deepen my understanding of the Israel-Palestine situation. So I purchased at least a dozen books - mostly semi-obscure, academic, many by dissenting Israeli historians. A day came when I closed a book halfway through, resolved to read no further, even to try to forget all I had learned, and then I donated all the books. It was clear, painfully and miserably clear, that I would be wasting my life trying to understand it more when it was nothing more than this.

“If you go back 400 years ago it never would've occurred to anybody to be introspective.” haunting stuff. we are ruled by people without interiority.
David Senra@davidsenra

Great men of history had little to no introspection. The personality that builds empires is not the same personality that sits around quietly questioning itself. @pmarca and I discuss what we both noticed but no one talks about: David: You don't have any levels of introspection? Marc: Yes, zero. As little as possible. David: Why? Marc: Move forward. Go! I found people who dwell in the past get stuck in the past. It's a real problem and it's a problem at work and it's a problem at home. David: So I've read 400 biographies of history’s greatest entrepreneurs and someone asked me what the most surprising thing I’ve learned from this was [and I answered] they have little or zero introspection. Sam Walton didn't wake up thinking about his internal self. He just woke up and was like: I like building Walmart. I'm going to keep building Walmart. I'm going to make more Walmarts. And he just kept doing it over and over again. Marc: If you go back 400 years ago it never would've occurred to anybody to be introspective. All of the modern conceptions around introspection and therapy, and all the things that kind of result from that are, a kind of a manufacture of the 1910s, 1920s. Great men of history didn't sit around doing this stuff. The individual runs and does all these things and builds things and builds empires and builds companies and builds technology. And then this kind of this kind of guilt based whammy kind of showed up from Europe. A lot of it from Vienna in 1910, 1920s, Freud and all that entire movement. And kind of turned all that inward and basically said, okay, now we need to basically second guess the individual. We need to criticize the individual. The individual needs to self criticize. The individual needs to feel guilt, needs to look backwards, needs to dwell in the past. It never resonated with me.

@ChooseP00R @VladTheInflator We’ve known for a long time that nothing can really convince profit seeking companies to do anything even remotely ethical without forcing them to by mandate lol

@Ar2Ax @VladTheInflator They’ll be goosed either way yeah. But less frequent reporting - at least in theory - should push investors to evaluate companies on longer term operational performance rather than short-term earnings management. That’s the salutary benefit that I’m pointing to here.

@VladTheInflator This is a good thing? Companies have gotten so good at goosing the numbers in their quarterly reports that they’ve really diminished in the insight that they provide. All the while, long term vision/stability of these same corporations is sacrificed at the altar of Q1 earnings.

To say nothing of the more than 1,600 Vietnamese civilians who died in the Christmas bombings he's referencing, but also, dumbass: Hanoi won that war. They won the war by so much that it caused a national soul-searching in America we have never recovered from.
Jim Cramer@jimcramer

If the infrastructure is not taken out and the money is not taken away why should Iran come to the peace table. They are taunting us with $200 oil. They do not have the cards; our military must be unleashed. Time to do what we did to Hanoi...to get them to the table
