You talk to any serious, effective law enforcement officer, and they say, "My best tool is my voice." Words deescalate a situation. Chasing a disturbed person around a subway platform shouting and tasing them is just pathetic policing, even before shots were fired.

I grew up listening to Al when the Suns were the only team in town. Every time I turn on a game, I’ll remember how he helped make me a lifelong fan. My thoughts are with his loved ones and the entire Suns family.

This is huge, and needed. I hope states that haven’t already done so will follow suit.

As Executive Director of Arizonans for Transparency and Accountability in Corrections @AtacOrg, this victory is particularly inspiring. It reinforces the urgent need for independent oversight here in Arizona. Oversight is about more than just government accountability. It’s about ensuring the safety and effective operations of our correctional facilities. It’s about protecting everyone within these institutions while increasing public safety.
