Today, the NAACP gathered on the steps of the Tennessee Supreme Court following oral arguments in NAACP, Gloria Sweet-Love, et. al v. The State of Tennessee Governor, et. al, challenging the unlawful process leading to adoption of the state's racially discriminatory Congressional map. The emergency lawsuit challenges a 48-hour special session carried out by state lawmakers earlier this month as both unlawful and unconstitutional. “Across the South we are witnessing officials recklessly moving to dismantle Congressional districts that have provided Black communities a voice in our democracy. It is not surprising that in their mad dash to disenfranchise Black voters, they are breaking laws, defying rules and running afoul of state constitutional guardrails." — NAACP General Counsel @KristenClarkeJD naacp.org/articles/naacp…

Lawmakers across the South are actively working to weaken our votes. We refuse to let that happen. Our vote is our power, and fair representation is worth every bit of the fight. Today, we are taking a stand and making our voices heard at the Mississippi Fights Back! Rally for Voting Rights. The NAACP is taking a stand. Today, we launch the #OutofBounds campaign, a national call to action for Black athletes, families, fans, and allies. In response to states erasing Black voting representation after the Supreme Court’s Louisiana v. Callais decision, we are demanding accountability. "Out of Bounds is our answer: we are naming the contradiction, and we are calling on Black athletes, families, fans, and consumers to act on it. The same power that built these programs can be redirected." —NAACP President and CEO @DerrickNAACP This is about more than sports. It’s about justice. The NAACP is fighting to block Trump’s executive order on mail-in ballots, which threatens millions of voters. In a democracy, the voters decide. Today, the Virginia Supreme Court chose to silence them. Just weeks ago, Virginians approved a temporary redistricting referendum to keep extremist lawmakers accountable. The NAACP proudly mobilized across the Commonwealth, contacting over 150,000 Black voters to help secure this victory. By overturning this measure, the Court has rejected the clear will of the people. We are exploring all legal and legislative avenues to restore the will of the voters and ensure equal representation for every American. naacp.org/articles/naacp…

Tennessee’s lawmakers passed maps to redraw the state’s only majority-Black district. This move divides the Black vote and minimizes its influence. Today, the NAACP Tennessee State Conference filed a lawsuit to block the State’s plan to silence Black representation. This fight is about protecting our voting rights, our voices, and our democracy. “A democracy without Black representation is not a democracy. It is a direct attack on our democracy and our Constitution to dismantle majority-Black districts,” said @KristenClarkeJD, NAACP General Counsel. naacp.org/articles/naacp…

For over 60 years, Rev. Dr. Amos C. Brown has been a tireless champion for justice and equality. This July, we will honor him with the 111th Spingarn Medal during the 117th #NationalConvention in Chicago for his contributions. From his early days fighting on the front lines of the Civil Rights Movement to his enduring advocacy for economic justice, educational equity, criminal justice reform, and global human rights, Rev. Dr. Brown’s legacy is woven into the fabric of our civil rights history. naacp.org/articles/legen…

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais this week, we held an emergency briefing to address the far-reaching implications of the decision and to mobilize a path forward to protect voting rights in America. "The civil rights community is unified. We are organized, we are rallying, we are coming together. There is a path forward. Vote like you have never voted before. This midterm election cycle is absolutely consequential to the fate of our democracy." —@KristenClarkeJD, NAACP General Counsel Couldn't tune in live? For Black communities, "wellness" has never been about green juices or step counts. It’s about whether the bus shows up on time to get you to the doctor. It’s about safe housing, affordable food, and feeling heard in the exam room. NAACP’s ACE Your Health report, based on nearly 23,000 voices, paints a clear picture: health equity isn’t just about medicine, it’s about systems. This month and beyond, let’s move from awareness to action. Read this piece by Dr. Chris T. Pernell, Director of the Center for Health Equity, for more report findings and join the conversation: naacp.org/articles/pictu… #NationalMinorityHealthMonth

Today’s Supreme Court decision in Louisiana vs. Callais is a direct attack on Black voters and marks a shameful moment in our democracy. This ruling opens the door to racial gerrymandering that will take us back to Jim Crow. This ruling is a betrayal of Black voters and the promise of democracy. We will not stay silent. naacp.org/articles/naacp…
