If you live in Scotland or the North of England or Ireland it’s a turnip and they are eaten just like mashed potato and almost as often as an accompaniment to the same sort of meals, and in soups and broths (and the small white ones are called white turnips). They are also used there for Halloween lanterns. If you live in the South of England, it’s a swede, not eaten so often (and the small white ones are called turnips).

@theamelia__ I did, up until 2 years ago. In London I opened the door in a restaurant, a person wearing a dress promptly berated me for doing so, stating they were perfectly capable of doing it themselves.
