Nigeria finds itself trapped in a crisis of quality control, where the authenticity of any product you buy is a question for the gods. In this epidemic of deception that is fueled by greed and the failure of the Government, every product, from essential items like detergents and bath soaps to the more indulgent realms of wines and beverages, coexists with its counterfeit counterpart. The Nigerian consumer maneuvers through this challenging terrain, relying on divine providence, sheer instincts, and the resilience of their immune systems. The omnipresence of this scourge is such that even in the aisles of supermarkets, sellers inquire if your preference is for the genuine or the imitation when shopping for everyday items. Regrettably, the construction industry, a cornerstone of infrastructure development, is not immune to this plague of counterfeit products. Iron rods, roofing sheets, and even cement demand meticulous scrutiny from Nigerian buyers. Stories of collapsing buildings are regular headlines that Nigerians see every few months. But this does not have to be this way. There was once an era in which incidence of fake drugs were reported to be 10%. There was once an era in which the Nigerian regulatory body NAFDAC was a household name. The excellene of achievements of NAFDAC were widely hailed from Africa to the UN. During this era, a certain Nigerian Amazon was in charge. This woman was the woman who told the President Olusegun Obasanjo she cannot resign even after her enemies burnt her house. In a nation used to mediocrity, Professor Dora Akunyili was a breath of fresh air. She was like a wonder woman who came from beyond her. Her reign brought sanity to NAFDAC, reduced the prevalence of fake drugs from 80% to 16%. Professor is a hero, a hero that Nigerians have forgotten. This is the right moment to remember this hero. This is the story of one Nigeria’s true heroine. Watch the full video here: youtu.be/HnALDDkdmt8?si…
