Climate.ca is officially live! After NOAA ended Climate.gov’s day-to-day operations in 2025, former members of the team built Climate.us to carry that work forward. This new independent nonprofit has preserved climate stories, data tools, visual resources, and educational materials that help make climate science accessible to the public. At a time when climate journalism and public-facing climate resources are being cut back rather than expanded, I’m especially grateful to see this work continue. Their explanations and graphics have always stood out to me as clear, accessible, and transparent. I’m really looking forward to this reboot, and I encourage you to explore the site and share it with others. Visit: climate.us

Wenn man nach 60 (!) Jahren in einem Land nicht genug Deutsch spricht, um grundlegende Anweisungen eines Bademeisters zu verstehen, ist das massives Integrationsversagen. Im Heidebad verlangt niemand C2-Level. B1 ist vollkommen ausreichend, um eingelassen zu werden.

Ach wie nett. Meine Großeltern lebten und arbeiteten 60 Jahre in diesem Land, sprechen aber aufgrund der Lebensrealität vieler Gastarbeiter der 1. Generation leider kein perfektes Deutsch. Jetzt müssten sie also um den Einlass ins Freibad bangen? Das Land verändert sich.

@WeatherProf shown that the distribution is normal in the tails (no fat tails), which would require plotting the real data on a log scale. In fact it is highly unlikely that there are no such fat tails. Making questionable claims only feeds the attackers - not all of them are entirely stupid.

@WeatherProf I think it is problematic to translate 4.6sigma into a return time, even as illustration how absurdly high this is. The plot clearly does not show real data (fluctuations are missing), only a normal distribution with parameters (hopefully) from observations. It is not 2/

Today’s France peak was 44.6°C/112°F in Bordeaux. At 4.2 sigma - so far on the right tail - the return interval for the region gets wacky. So don’t pay too much attention to the 1-in-87K recurrence interval for the historical climate. Because it’s so far above the station’s all-time and June records, it falls way outside the distribution/ record that the numbers become nonsensical. But suffice to say that this event is virtually impossible without climate change. In today’s hotter climate however, it appears to be “just another Tuesday”. It’s not coincidence, it’s climate change.

@Philj77 Actually, yes. And in your room, too. A full third of the CO2 in the atmosphere are there due to human activity, the burning of fossil fuels and change in land use. And yes, one can measure this a the molecule level. Google carbon isotopes.

@Cornishview @DrKutney It’s not an opinion. It is a scientifically established fact. CO2 is a GHG. Specific gravity has nothing to do with it, lucky us. Because if all CO2 would sink to the bottom of the atmosphere, it would be a 4m thick layer, killing everything.

Das ist die absolut dämlichste Darstellung, die ich zu dem Thema je gesehen habe. Ein Großteil weiß nicht mal, was Kelvin für eine Einheit ist. Zur Darstellung von Temperaturen zum Vergleich ist Kelvin ausserhalb der Wissenschaft eher unpraktisch

@FlorianDreaming Ob Kelvin oder °C ist komplett irrelevant. Unangemessen ist die Darstellung ohne Nullpunktunterdrückung für die Fragestellung „gab es eine Änderung der Durchschnittlichen Temperatur“. Das verrät die komplette Abwesenheit naturwissenschaftlicher Grundausbildung oder die Absicht.

@greenheroaf For folks unfamiliar with energy physics, it's just plain wrong to divide the Sun/4 and then call the energy values reduced by ¾’s an "average". Even math averages have to obey energy conservation principle. Absurdity that compromises many good people into a moral corruption.
