You have no clue who is pressing buttons in the original prompt. It’s also inferred you don’t have a live tally during voting procedures but only once it’s all counted.
Serdon@Serdizzle

@rawsmashmouth So how would you feel if you hit red, while your kid(s) who didn't know any better hit blue. Or your wife? Would it still be as simple as "I'm not putting a gun to my head lol"

The reason to pick red is that maybe not enough others will pick blue The reason to pick red is that I can’t see the results until all votes have been cast The reason to pick red is that I have no prior results to model my decision after

but you can’t change your vote because that would fundamentally change the prompt. your vote is private and will always be your vote. seeing results ruins the original prompt, like an info hazard.
autumn@adrusi

how i became a blue-pusher i have a confession: years ago, in the first button poll, i pressed red "well theres a correct answer here, right?" then i saw the results and that we all won bc blue won and i didnt get mad, just realized i was wrong and switched allegiances

no because you would see people untying themselves like receiving live feedback for a running poll on twitter. the vote is private this cannot be accounted for until all are cast. people are ignoring this part of the problem
hellofamily123@hellofamil73975

no it's more like everyone is tied to the track, if you press the red button you untie yourself and nobody else, but if 50% of the people on the track press the blue button everyone is untied? not the same but closer i think - it matches the collective help thing

@avakunas yes that’s true but I’m confused why that matters. it only matters that you can see the votes, not who cast them. tried it in my family group text and instantly realized this problem, even after making it anonymous. you see live results so once one person picked blue it was over

@BootTheScoot oh that's not what i'm arguing. i'm saying i'll never know if a friend, family member or loved one voted red

@avakunas the problem is not that you know which person voted which way it’s that you only know how people will vote because of the poll results and can see it changing before final count. the first vote being public like in all these polls would change everything, that’s not the prompt

@BootTheScoot thats the gist of it. blue voters will never know who voted blue, red will know who voted blue and who voted red based on the results bc there's always going to be people who picked blue

@avakunas Yes but I don’t speak for all reds, only myself. Assume the first person votes red on this prompt, and everyone can see it. In the case of twitter polls, you see it after you vote. In the prompt I would assume it would have to reveal the results only once all votes are cast.

@BootTheScoot so if red voters could see results are turning more blue they'd then vote blue also?

like bro this is actually the logic for all the blue bottom pressers though. you’re only saying it after you’ve seen the tally!!!
FwogEnjoyer@doxntme

@03archaist That's exactly what I'm basically saying, they're changing the entire framework of the question. When you can see that no one is getting on the track, and have confirmation of that + possible communication it completely changes the initial question (anonymous global survey)

interesting how completely the conversation has shifted to kids. initially, most people assumed we were talking about adults, not babies smashing buttons, which kind of breaks the thought experiment. that this is all we’re now discussing implies blues understand they were wrong.
notsoErudite@notsoErudite

Since everyone was very curious my answer, my answer is obviously blue. Gotta save the naive, the kids, the blue lovers, and the principally hope-pilled people. You red button pickers need therapy.
