By way of explanation – and for those who have followed me for some time – some personal news. As of March 14th, I officially began the retirement that #Newsquest prematurely advanced nearly 3 years ago with its restructuring in Cambridgeshire but decided the time was not right to say goodbye. Within days – and helped by some amazing friends – CambsNewsOnline launched. However, I have decided to severe all connections with CambsNews Online which has been my pride and joy since the adventure began with little preparation but achieved modest success in the period that followed. I shall be 74 in April, enjoying (very much) married life and love living in a delightful Cambridgeshire town. I want more time to follow other pursuits without being tied to the daily grind involved in running a busy news website. Which will mean more adventures, days out, and breaks with my very special partner who I was lucky enough to find and marry. So that is it really. It has been an amazing time, and I have loved my time with CambsNews, and only a few loose ends to tie up and that will be that. My friend Terry Harris, who helped launch it, has seemingly decided to plough ahead with it and did the essentials behind the scenes such as setting up domain names, monitoring views, and urging me throughout to become more business oriented and to make it not only a journalistic success but also a business success. The first enthralled me, the latter not quite my cup of tea. I simply enjoyed researching, writing, and investigating. And there was plenty of that to do as many would appreciate. I shall stay on X, of course, and I have even subscribed to enable me to write some longer pieces when the mood takes me.
