David Prowse physically played Vader in the original trilogy — he wore the suit, performed the scenes, and delivered all the lines on set. But when the film released, his voice had been replaced by James Earl Jones. The voice that defined Darth Vader wasn’t the man inside the mask, and even the famous reveal line was changed during production to keep it secret. Jones was paid only a few thousand dollars for the role and didn’t even ask to be credited at first, believing the performance belonged to the actor in the suit. One character, two performances — and together, they created one of the most unforgettable villains in history.
