🎉 Exciting milestone: Our first @angew_chem cover is out! It was a real pleasure illustrating the work of Drs. @GuillaumeDeBo and @LeiChen63199376 on their fascinating paper: “Logic-Gated Release of a Dual Payload from a β-Lactam Mechanophore with a Rotaxane Actuator.” This cover shows how two stimuli, force and water, are necessary to unlock the release of various drugs from a rotaxane molecular device. Mechanical force is used to break a β-lactam mechanophore with the help of a rotaxane actuator illustrated by a pillar[5]arene macrocycle threaded onto a rope. The scission of the β-lactam ring reveals an imine, which is subsequently hydrolysed in the presence of water to unlock the release of drug molecules. 🗞️ Learn more about the paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/an… Grateful for the opportunity to visualize such elegant and complex chemistry.
