Mamadou Sarr on Senegal and France affiliation: 🗣 "I watched both teams a lot. I was on my couch whenever there was an AFCON, cheering for Senegal, and the same for the Euros or World Cups with France. I remember the 2002 generation in the France national team (Arnaud Kalimuendo, Georginio Rutter, Lucien Agoumé…), THEY WERE STRONG, I WANTED TO BE SELECTED MYSELF. It happened naturally (his arrival with Senegal), knowing that Senegal didn’t really have the means to bring players over from France for the youth selections." ~ @lequipe

🇺🇸🇮🇶 The U.S. and Iraq just put militia disarmament in writing. Trump envoy Tom Barrack and Iraqi PM Ali Al-Zaidi backed the "complete disarmament and disbandment" of every armed group operating outside state control, which is diplomatic code for the Iran-backed militias. There's a business side too. Iraq's lining up a Starlink license, Chevron oil field talks, and a pipeline deal to get its crude flowing again. Al-Zaidi gets his White House visit in mid-July. Tehran's grip on Iraq is exactly what Washington is trying to pry loose. Source: @USEmbBaghdad / Writer: Julie

RECAP: Iran's FM, Abbas Araghchi, said announcing the end of the war was the biggest result of the agreement's first phase, and that the full MoU will be implemented on Friday. An explosion hit a suburb of Tehran known for housing military and intel staff. No word on the reason, but Mossad could be up to its old tricks. Trump, Macron, and Zelensky walked into the G7 summit together after Ukrainian drones torched Moscow's biggest oil refinery just 10 miles away from the Kremlin. And Belarusian President Lukashenko warned that direct NATO involvement in Ukraine risks a nuclear war. Writer: Ian

RECAP: -The Iran deal is signed and already under fire from inside Trump's own government. Per Axios, CIA Director Ratcliffe warned that intelligence shows Iranian officials discussing the deal among themselves in ways that contradict what they've told U.S. negotiators. Ratcliffe, Rubio, and Hegseth are skeptical, while Vance, Witkoff, and Kushner pushed it through. One official says they'll know within three weeks if Tehran is serious. -Israel is still reeling. Channel 13 reports officials were blindsided, calling the deal "terrible for us," after Vance pressed Netanyahu to ease off Lebanon and got refused. -Trump took a Truth Social victory lap, declaring Iran agreed to never have a nuclear weapon and slamming a $300 million payment story as "fake news." -Tragedy at home: eight crew members are believed dead after a B-52 bomber crashed seconds after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base, one of just 76 of the irreplaceable jets that flew combat over Iran days ago. -The Coast Guard revealed Iran and Russia's "dark fleet" oil tankers are floating cyber bombs, remotely hackable and faking their identities, and warned dozens could flood back to sea now that Hormuz is reopening.

🇺🇸🇮🇷🇮🇱 Trump told Israel they must get in line or fight alone, something no U.S. president since Reagan has said to an Israeli PM. Fmr. USMC Captain Matthew Hoh says if Israel bombs Beirut again, Iran won't retaliate militarily. They'll just close the Strait and let economic pressure force Trump to handle Netanyahu himself. @MatthewPHoh @realazadeh
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

🇺🇸🇮🇷 8 more Americans died yesterday in a B-52 test flight and the deal being signed is essentially what Iran offered before the war began. Iraq War veteran Matthew Hoh asks a simple but damning question Americans have been asking since the war he fought in: What is this for? 3,500 Iranians. 4,000 Lebanese. At least 14 U.S. service members. But what did all this bloodshed accomplish? @MatthewPHoh @realazadeh

🚨🇲🇦 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪: 18-year old Ayyoub Bouaddi, who made a TOP World Cup debut vs. Brazil, played for France in EVERY youth level. Just a few months ago, it was still unclear which senior national team he would represent. 🗣️ Back then, before Bouaddi’s decision, Didider Deschamps was asked about the player and he said: “He has the freedom to choose. We are following his performances closely, but there is very very strong COMPETITION in France’s midfield.” Many French people blame Deschamps for Bouaddi’s decision to play for Morocco, as he pointed out that he would face big competition. Not long after those comments, Bouaddi decided to play for Morocco… And now, of course, he has been called up to the World Cup. 🏆✨

Legacy media is dead For the first time ever, more people worldwide get their news from social media and video than from TV, newspapers, or radio. The latest Reuters Institute report puts it at 54%. Among 18 to 24 year olds, half say platforms like X and YouTube are their main source. Legacy outlets didn't rank first with a single age group, while trust in traditional news hit a record low. Turns out when people get the choice to go straight to the source, they take it. Source: AFP / Writer: Julie

🇬🇧 Starmer's turning the UK into an authoritarian dictatorship, where people are too scared to speak out Its planned social media ban is being sold as child protection. Look closer and it affects every adult too. To keep under-16s off X, TikTok, YouTube and the rest, everyone has to prove they're over 16. That means tying your ID to your accounts. We've seen where this leads. Under the existing Online Safety Act, sites like Imgur and several adult platforms simply blocked all UK users rather than handle the verification. Civil liberties groups like the Open Rights Group are already warning about who holds that data and how it's protected. Set that against a country with a track record of arresting people over online posts, and the worry writes itself. When your name is attached to everything you say, you start watching what you say. It's the oldest trick in the authoritarian playbook, the same instinct that kept people quiet under every communist regime of the last century. Starmer calls it protecting children. Funny how the protection always seems to involve knowing exactly who said what. And the people who do speak out and stand up, like Tommy Robinson? He was arrested under the Terrorism Act so police could seize his devices and see who he's been communicating with. The UK is slipping into tyranny, and the voices that can speak out will soon be silenced. Sources: NPR, The Register, @TRobinsonNewEra / Writers: Julie, Ian
