@DannyHowland No that’s an erroneous assumption - the people who post like that on social media are a small proportion of the Manx public and often aren’t representative either There are 84,000 people on the island, far more than the number of people who comment on social media

@DannyHowland Yup, happily I don’t care much what social media says. I know what I’ve managed to deliver has helped people and I can look myself in the mirror, which are pretty much the only things that matter

@Gedpower This is basically: 1️⃣ Pay UK minimum wage 2️⃣ Subsidise employers through the tax system by using taxpayers money to subsidise low wage employment I don’t see how this helps? How does govt pay for this extra tax credit on top of EPA and IS? Everyone else’s taxes go up!

Unfortunately we got the tragic news that a good friend of mine, Kian Broadhead, sadly passed away on Sunday. He was a huge Liverpool fan and was meant to go to the derby on Saturday, as a present for his little brother Charlie, pictured below. Hoping to arrange a minute… 1/2

@LawrieHooper @Nuna1277 Biogas makes a lot of sense imo. If you created it on island you could get buy in from local farmers and then redestribute organic fertiliser to them once the anaerobic digestion was done- could also see if the hospital could use the C02. Brings people along the journey 👍🏻

@DannyHowland @Nuna1277 We’re connected to the UK grid, so if it’s not sunny or windy anywhere here then it will be somewhere in the UK Likely though we’ll have a balanced grid with storage and other forms (like biogas) - you’re right that putting all our eggs in one particular basket would be daft

When you read what’s in the mandate you’ll see why he rejected this Govt openly states that they are going to be defunding key partners, probably reducing their funding, cutting existing services & creating serious sustainability issues for these entities

@LawrieHooper @Nuna1277 And on days when it’s not windy or sunny? Which we get a fair few of here, we’d be buying the power back from the grid at a premium instead of generating ourselves? Upwards of £300 mwh on some days.Your view in theory would make sense, but if it actually happens is another thing

@DannyHowland @Nuna1277 Well in simple terms you don’t have to pay for the fuel The MUA spent about £35m on gas last year, that cost makes up a huge portion of your energy bill Clearly you wouldn’t build a £35m wind farm every year

@DannyHowland @Nuna1277 According to the Irish government only 18% of their energy is generated by wind, a small portion is hydro. The rest is fossil fuels and they state their reliance on gas is the main thing that drives their energy prices

@LawrieHooper @Nuna1277 France does yes- heavily backed by Nuclear. Ireland lots of renewables- extortionate energy bills.. if you really think the Island can afford this when they are cutting cancer screenings and everything else, then I don’t think you understand the general public’s priorities!

@DannyHowland @Nuna1277 I think you’ll find that’s more to do with the UK’s failed privatised energy sector and policy Lots of Europe have heavy non-fossil fuel energy and it’s cheaper than the UK.
