@fastrlife Anecdotally this is true for me. In COVID I went hard 6 days a week for 18 months straight. Now I basically don't lift for 6 months in the Canadian winter. It takes me about 3-5 weeks to get back to near my peak.

You only have to get jacked once. Build muscle and your body adds permanent myonuclei to those fibers; That’s cellular machinery that doesn’t disappear when you stop training. Studies show these nuclei stick around for 15+ years; Possibly forever. Muscle memory is maxed out for 20 weeks after you take a break from lifting. In that period… It literally takes ~5 lifting sessions to get back to your best form. Losing your gains is a fallacy; You’d have to intentionally quit the gym or lose your desire to maintain a great physique to really “fall off”… Get jacked once. Then coast on that biology for the rest of your life…

This has always been the case. We heavily tax things like liquor and cigarettes because of the cost of those products on our society and health-care. We use that money to fund social programs healthcare, infrastructure, and other vital services.

@zerototom Electrician here - if money is not a big deal it's totally worth it, especially factoring that you think energy could be an issue in the future. The downside is it generally takes 8-12 years to get your initial investment back in savings

The best investment I can see at present is getting solar panels for my house. If anymore energy infrastructure gets destroyed then I'm going to get them.

@FPLFella Insurance is an inefficient necessity in our current system. You add nothing to whatever you are insuring. You don't build houses, you don't fix cars, you don't help medical emergencies. You sit in an office leeching a small percent (you say 5) off of people who contribute.
