The Founding Fathers never gave us the right to secession, as they knew anytime we'd have an election or a recession we risk the country ripping itself apart. Instead they gave us the right to bear arms, so, should the need arise, states can have a chance to fight for secession.

@SandyofCthulhu Rebels did the same thing to Union sympathizers in Texes, murdered hundreds of them over the course of the war. There was a whole wagon train of German immigrants fleeing for Mexico, until Texas Cavalry chased them down and cut them to pieces, Men, Women, Children... 37 killed.

In the Civil War there was another attempt to establish it because the East Tennessee hillbillies had no use for slaves not slaveholders. In complete hypocritical denial of their “states rights” idea, the Confederates went into the area with fire & sword, hanging men, burning houses, and forcibly conscripting youths. Lincoln was distraught and keep trying to find ways to get Union troops there but it was not to be. The Union did manage to split off West Virginia though, which had a similar tale.

In 1785, frontiersmen (in what’s now Tennessee) declared the independent State of Franklin after North Carolina tried to abandon them. It eventually collapsed in 1789, but was the 14th state for a good 4 years.

You know. I'm starting to think this evil politician in a red tie sending anti-superhero ICE raids into New York neighborhoods MIGHT be a clunky political allegory for something contemporary. If only I could put my finger on exactly what.

M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle The BAR was loved by American troops in multiple wars. Introduced in 1918 it served in the tail end of WW, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Chambered in .30-06 with a 20 round box mag, it gave full auto fire support to infantry- and never jammed.

@EchoesofWarYT I say the true end to the war was when Jefferson Davis and his Cabinet officially dissolved the Confederate Government on May 5, 1865. Which was basically the most petty way they could surrender without surrendering. Any Rebels still fighting afterwards were simply holdouts.

On May 12-13, 1865, more than a month after Lee's surrender at Appomattox, Union and Confederate forces fought the last battle of the Civil War near Brownsville, Texas. Colonel Theodore Barrett ordered approximately 300 Union soldiers, including men from the 62nd U.S. Colored Infantry, to attack Confederate positions at Palmito Ranch. The Confederate forces, led by Colonel John "Rip" Ford, counterattacked with roughly 190 men and drove the Union troops back in disarray. The battle ended in a Confederate victory, with Union forces suffering about 30 casualties compared to minimal Confederate losses. Ironically, both sides knew the war had effectively ended weeks earlier—Lee had surrendered on April 9, and Lincoln had been assassinated on April 14. News traveled slowly to the remote Texas-Mexico border, but many participants likely fought anyway out of duty, stubbornness, or simply because orders were given. The engagement proved particularly absurd given its timing and location. While the nation began reconstructing itself, soldiers in South Texas engaged in what amounted to a pointless skirmish. Some historians suggest Colonel Barrett ordered the attack to capture cotton or livestock, or simply to gain military glory before the war officially concluded. Whatever his motivation, the operation achieved nothing of strategic value. Private John J. Williams of the 34th Indiana Infantry became the last soldier killed in Civil War combat during this battle. His death, like the battle itself, served no purpose in determining the war's outcome. The Confederate troops who won this final engagement would surrender just weeks later, making their victory entirely hollow.

German infantry in Stalingrad. The German military would take 400,000 total casualties during the battle for the city. Of the 100,000 or so who surrendered, only a fraction ever returned home.

Last time Trek died, it was too much of a good thing: 3 excellent shows, and 1 okay one, over 18 years. Plus a string of solid movies. This time? We got no movies, 1 bad show, and 3 hideous spinoffs, in UNDER a decade. No one watched any of it. Franchise collapse speedrun.
