I’ve always kept it 💯 with the people of District 22.
They know what I’m about, and they gave me an overwhelming mandate to shift our budgetary priorities away from cops and cages, toward care and community.
The FY23 budget does not do that.

BREAKING: Kendra and Hallie were just arrested outside the house of Biden's DHS Secretary Ali Mayorkas (more info above in the thread).
The Biden administration promised to cancel ALL of Trump's ICE contracts. So far, they've canceled 1 out of 116.

Programs that are offered within NYS jails are constructed and geared toward the majority of the incarcerated population: men. This leads back to the trend of women going unheard/ disregarded when it comes to their needs and desires when it comes to the criminal justice systems.

More officers coming out. Shields, some mace around, and firearms. The (white) officer who seems to be enjoying this occasion most also audibly referred to a reporter, when drawing his partner's attention to her out of boredom, as "that bitch."

🧵 I want to share more about what I witnessed at Rikers Island yesterday. We broke into groups to inspect different parts of the sprawling facility. I spent several hours at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center.

I just returned from Rikers Island where a group of elected officials exercised our legal right to inspect correctional facilities. What I witnessed was a humanitarian crisis. A horror house of abuse and neglect. I'll share more soon but for now my message is simple: decarcerate.
