March Madness: USF is now authorized to spend $22 million in university money to pay the salaries of a tiny percentage of its athletes. Unrelated, they just hiked out-of-state tuition by 10%. Meanwhile, Louisville students are being charged a new $400 annual fee just to bail out their Athletics Department's $12 million debt. NCAA sports.

The old CAA tournaments at the Richmond Coliseum were LEGIT. A conference with VA schools JMU, ODU, George Mason, William & Mary within an easy drive, plus VCU in the host city gave you 11k-12k crowds. Incredible atmospheres.

RPI has its flaws too, but it was much more mid-major friendly than NET. And it's apparently still good enough to use as the main metric for every sport that doesn't pay big money for NCAA tournament spots.

Thanks for reading coach! He’s not wrong, IMO. The current basketball schedule environment is deeply anti mid major. I don’t even blame coaches who duck difficult games against Miami, Ohio, Belmont, etc. they’re just responding to the incentives the system rewards right now.

Barely anybody actually voted JMU 1st. Several coaches had JMU 2nd or 3rd because Spradlin rarely finishes below there, so JMU had the most points. Nobody knew what anybody had & as it played out there was barely any difference between 1st & 9th. The preseason poll was worthless.

@Shane_DNRSports that may be true but how do fans reconcile the fact that multiple preseason polls and picks selected them to win the conference. i assume that was based on talent acquisition and now their story is talent was lacking or lost. ????
